The man on the other end sounded thrilled. “Oh, that’s fantastic news, Mr. Harman! You can rest assured our products are of the highest quality. I will pay close attention to your instructions,” he added, trying to flatter Greyson.
“Stay in touch,” Greyson said.
Before ending the call abruptly, he said, “Stay in touch.” He then threw the broken phone onto the table, his expression darkening.
Even though Candice had turned her back on him, he still couldn’t bring himself to let her go. He didn’t know why.
After dinner, Candice stood up and went to the kitchen to clean the tableware. When she finished, she noticed Milton was still sitting in the living room.
She kept her distance and asked, “Why are you still here? It’s getting late.”
The clock on the wall showed it was nearly ten o’clock. Milton shrugged nonchalantly and replied, “Who said I’m leaving? I’ll be crashing at Raul’s place tonight.” The corners of Candice’s mouth twitched—that meant she would be seeing him more often.
“In that case, I think it’s best if you go to his place now so I can rest,” Candice said with a straight face.
Milton got up and responded, “Alright then. You must be tired after a long day. Get some rest.”
Candice switched off the kitchen lights and started toward her room.
However, not long after, she suddenly slipped.
Damn it! It must have been the wet spots left by her wet hair. The floor tiles were high quality and as smooth as a mirror.
Candice fell forward, bracing for a hard impact, but just in time, Milton stepped forward, holding her with one arm and lifting her up with the other.
Feeling dizzy, Candice slowly regained her senses and realized she was in Milton’s arms.
Instinctively, she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck.
Milton furrowed his brows and chided her softly, “No wonder you slipped. Why didn’t you dry your hair right after your shower? The floor is slippery when wet. Don’t you know that?”

Candice retorted, “It’s all your fault for ringing the doorbell. I came out in a hurry.”
After thinking for a moment, she realized she had falsely accused him—she had actually left the bathroom before hearing the doorbell.
“Okay, it was my mistake. What can I do to make it up to you?” he asked jokingly, still holding her and looking into her eyes. Candice didn’t expect him to admit his mistake so readily, so she didn’t know how to respond.
Without another word, Milton lifted Candice in his arms and carried her to the room.
Candice didn’t sense any danger until they reached the bed. “I don’t need you to make it up to me. Just let me go,” she demanded.
Milton immediately released his hold, causing Candice to fall onto the soft bed.
Startled, she complained, “Why did you let go so suddenly?”
