With a bitter smile, Candice leaned back against the bed and shook her head. “Do you think I’m useless? I’ve finally escaped Greyson’s hold on me, but…”
Bettina turned to face her, placing a steadying hand on Candice’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Candy. I didn’t know it would turn out like this. I…” Guilt weighed heavily on Bettina’s heart. She had done everything in her power to help Candice break free from Greyson’s grip, even if it meant supporting Milton’s involvement.
Greyson was undoubtedly a remarkable man, but there were others who were even more exceptional. When Candice had slept with Milton on her wedding night, Bettina had seized the opportunity to bring them closer.
However, she never expected it would push Candice even deeper into despair.
“It’s all my fault,” she lamented, shoulders slumped in defeat.
“How could it be your fault?” Candice’s eyes filled with confusion. “It’s all me. I’m not strong enough. I fell for him too easily.”
Bettina opened her mouth to speak, but the right words escaped her. It had taken Candice a decade to extricate herself from her last relationship. Milton’s considerable charm made it understandable that she had fallen for him. But how long it would take her to escape this latest entanglement? She almost dared not to think about it.
Anger began to simmer inside Bettina, and suddenly she was on her feet. “That bastard! I’m going to find him!”
After saying that, Bettina turned to rush out of the VIP ward.
“No.” Candice’s firm grip on her clothing stopped her in her tracks. “No,” Candice said firmly. “I’ll make a clean break with him. I can do it. I will keep my work and private affairs separate. I’ll take full responsibility for my cases and won’t let my personal life affect the firm’s performance.”

“Candy!” Bettina stamped her feet in frustration. “You don’t have to worry about work right now. Take time to focus on yourself.”
Candice, who had just stopped crying, had already regained her composure.
“Betty, do me a favor,” she said softly. “Find me a quiet place to rest for a while. And help me find a private doctor. I don’t want to see anyone. I don’t want to be treated at Greyson’s hospital. I’ll handle work from my computer. I’m leaving today. I don’t want to stay any longer.”
Bettina nodded. “Okay, I’ll take care of it.”
Raul had been waiting on the VIP floor for what felt like an eternity.
He had followed Bettina to Harmony Hospital but lost her at the gate.
With no other choice, he used all his connections to locate the VIP ward where Candice was staying. It wasn’t easy, but he finally made it. From his friends, he also learned more about what had happened at the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party.
