Chapter 537

Chapter 537:
He couldn’t find any evidence to prove that his mother hadn’t pushed Candice down the stairs. Yet he had repeatedly forced Candice into intimate encounters. Was it right or wrong to do so?
When Candice returned home, exhaustion enveloped her, and she fell into a deep slumber. She needed more rest, so she slept until noon.
Upon arriving home in the morning, she had messaged Bettina, explaining that she had worked late and wouldn’t make it to the law firm in the morning. Instead, she would attend the charity event in the afternoon.
This was a charity event that Corless planned to attend, and Candice’s initial intention was to gather information while there.
Upon waking up, Candice felt an overwhelming reluctance to move.
It seemed as though all her strength had vanished. Sex was far more draining than any exercise. She had once swum two thousand meters, but she wasn’t as tired as she was at this moment.
Were it not for her hunger, she would have happily remained in bed.
With great effort, Candice rose from the bed and headed to the bathroom. She had ample time before the charity event to indulge in a soothing hot bath, which would help alleviate the aches that plagued her body.
She filled the bathtub with warm water. While waiting, she ordered takeout using her phone.
After all, this was her home, and she knew the area well. Her surroundings held the beautiful memories of her youth. She recalled her favorite beef noodles from a century-old restaurant in an alley, a nostalgic reminder of her childhood. She placed her order, inputting the familiar address. She then left a note asking that the food be left at the door.
As the warm water was ready, she submerged herself in it. The rising steam caused the mirror in front of her to gradually fog up, obscuring the marks on her body.
Candice tenderly wiped herself with a towel, aware that these traces couldn’t be washed away.

Even if they faded, it still wouldn’t erase what had transpired.
Feeling refreshed after her bath, she ventured into the dressing room, rummaging through her wardrobe in search of a high-necked blouse to conceal the red marks on her neck.
Her eyes scanned the wardrobe, eventually landing on a black sweater with a stand-up collar.
Fortunately, the weather was chilly today. Otherwise, wearing a high collar might have seemed out of place. She examined herself in the mirror, pairing the sweater with matching trousers. She wore black diamond high heels, and a black briefcase completed her outfit. Feeling somewhat out of place in all black, she added a white vest.
Once she was ready, she opened the door to find her takeout waiting there.
Upon seeing her favorite beef noodles and coffee, she realized just how famished she was. After finishing her meal, she glanced at her watch and noticed that it was time to leave.
