Chapter 420
Chapter 420:
She was clearly distressed. “Candice had a miscarriage. The baby’s gone. I didn’t even know until you just told me.”
Milton stared at her with a piercing gaze.
He was torn. On one hand, he had to trust Candice’s words and the surveillance footage showing no one else present but Erica. On the other hand, he hoped his mother was innocent.
He didn’t know how he would face her if she was guilty.
With a pained look in her eyes, Erica pointed an accusing finger at Milton. “I raised you, Milton. Have I ever made you unhappy? Have I ever stopped you from doing anything? How could you suspect me? Do you really think I pushed Candice down the stairs? Is that the kind of person you think I am?”
She shook her head and spoke pitifully. “You’ve disappointed me so much.”
Erica rubbed her temples as she continued, “I felt dizzy and uncomfortable last night. But you didn’t care enough to ask me where I was. And now, you come here at the crack of dawn to question me!”
Erica rested her forehead on her hand and massaged her temples repeatedly. She still felt dizzy and nauseous.
Milton knew he had made a mistake and couldn’t say anything. He had spoken too harshly to his mother, and his anxiety had gotten the best of him.
If Erica wasn’t to blame, then what had happened to Candice? But he knew he couldn’t press Erica further.
“Since this has nothing to do with you, I need to find out the truth,” Milton said as he turned to leave.
Erica stopped him. “Wait a minute.”
Milton turned around and looked at her.
“You said Candice had a miscarriage. How is she now?” Erica asked with concern.
Milton closed his eyes briefly before responding, “The baby is gone. Although she is physically fine, she’s not in a good place emotionally.”

“Is it really your baby?” There was a moment of silence before Erica asked, her voice trembling slightly. “During the birthday banquet, someone revealed the secrets of the Harman family. Naturally, I heard everything. I thought the child was Greyson’s.”
“It was my child,” Milton asserted firmly. “There is no doubt about it. I know for a fact she didn’t sleep with Greyson. No one knows that better than me.”
Erica managed to stand up, her face etched with sadness and sympathy. “It’s such a terrible thing. She must be very sad. Should I go see her?”
Milton, however, stopped his mother with a firm grip on her arm. “Mother, you were the sole witness to the incident. If you can’t provide a clear explanation, how can you face her? Think carefully. Did you see anything suspicious?”
After thinking for a while, Erica shook her head. “I suddenly felt faint, and my chest ached. I could hardly make sense of my surroundings. It took me some time to return to the banquet hall, and by then, there was a commotion outside. But I was feeling unwell and didn’t pay attention. Later, I decided to rest at Mrs. Crawford’s place. That’s all I know.”
