Chapter 44

Chapter 44:
“Rey, you mean I apologize to her? Why would I do that?” Madilyn’s voice nearly shrieked.
Anger was evident on Greyson’s face. “Didn’t you come into the meeting room just now? Didn’t you hear what happened? Healy intentionally altered the contract and tried to trick me into giving him a large sum of money. Candice was the one who discovered the contract was altered and helped me reclaim Harmony Hospital. That’s why Healy attacked her out of anger and embarrassment.”
Madilyn was stunned. How was that even possible? She had never thought of Candice as a good person.
Yet, it was Candice who had helped Greyson get the hospital back. It turned out she wasn’t on Universe Financial Group’s side after all.
Madilyn fretted that Greyson’s opinion of Candice might change. After all, the hospital had been his life these past years.
She felt resentful, but helpless.
“Apologize,” Greyson insisted.
That was when Madilyn spoke through clenched teeth. “I’m sorry.”
Candice sneered at Madilyn’s apology, showing her disgust.
After she apologized, Madilyn dreaded that Greyson would communicate further with Candice. She quickly grabbed Greyson’s arm. “Let’s go now. Everyone’s waiting to hear the outcome of this. Now that you’ve successfully reclaimed the hospital, let’s head home and share the good news with them. Come on,” Madilyn cajoled as she shook his arm.
In the past, Greyson would have followed her without hesitation.
But today was different.
He didn’t move.
He looked at Madilyn’s hand gripping his arm, then turned his attention to Candice.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on Candice’s arm. Her black coat—
It was hard to see, but he noticed that the sleeve was cut and soaked with something wet and sticky. It must have been blood.
“Are you hurt?” Greyson furrowed his brows. It turned out that Candice had been injured, even though she seemed to have avoided Healy’s attacks.
Candice subconsciously glanced at her arm. She hadn’t felt the pain until now and winced slightly.
“Rey, let’s go,” Madilyn nudged again.

But Greyson paid her no mind and hailed a taxi instead. Madilyn was shocked when Greyson pushed her into the taxi and shut the door firmly. “You go back first,” he said sternly.
He gave the driver the address. “No. 16, Jadefly Road. Thank you.” He then paid him.
Madilyn looked out of the window in disbelief and called out to him, “Rey…”
As the taxi drove off, her scream faded away into the distance.
Candice watched the scene in astonishment.
But it wasn’t her business.
She just turned around to leave.
Unexpectedly, Greyson grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her toward his car. He opened the door and forced her inside. Then he got in himself.
The car felt cramped, and Candice couldn’t help but frown at Greyson’s sudden actions. “What are you doing?”
Greyson didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he reached behind him to grab a medical kit. “You’re bleeding. Let me treat you.”
Candice watched as he opened the medical kit, revealing an array of medical supplies.
She was astonished. But she quickly remembered that Greyson was a doctor, which explained everything. She saw that the supplies ranged from hemostatic agents and wound treatment tools to first-aid medicine and injections.
She recalled that while studying for his medical degree, he oversaw Harman Pharma and worked as an intern at the hospital.
She had seen him in action before. He wore a white coat and held a scalpel with a focused expression.
It was a stark contrast to the intense businessman he was when negotiating.
But Candice hesitated, trying to refuse his help.
“No, I don’t want it. I want to get out of your car. I can go to the hospital myself. This is not your business.”
Greyson wouldn’t let her go. He grabbed her arm firmly. “Take off your coat.”
While he spoke, he began pulling off her coat.
