Chapter 34:
After finishing the song, Milton turned on his heel and swiftly stepped off the stage, leaving his duet partner standing there.
Candice was stunned and speechless.
She didn’t even get a chance to express her gratitude for what he had done.
What an arrogant man he was! He might have saved her from total embarrassment, but that didn’t mean he truly cared. He just walked away without saying anything.
As soon as Milton left the stage, Raul dragged him to a corner.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Where have you been?”
Hearing the discussions around him, Raul stared at Milton with wide eyes. He asked, “Were you the one singing onstage just now? No wonder I thought the voice sounded familiar.”
Milton didn’t reply.
Raul glanced at the stage and saw Candice walking off in a hurry, disappearing into the crowd.
Shocked, he asked again, “Candice? Did you two just sing a love song together?”
Raul knew Milton sang well, but he seldom sang in front of people. In fact, Raul felt it had been a century since he last heard Milton sing.
Every time they hung out at a bar, Milton only drank and didn’t sing. No one could make him sing.
Why was he singing in public now?
Raul felt like his entire view of Milton had collapsed. They had been friends for more than two decades, and in all that time, it took a miracle to get him to sing. And now, all of a sudden, he was doing a duet with a girl in front of an audience.
Taking in Raul’s confused and amazed gaze, Milton felt uneasy and loosened his collar.
“This party’s boring. I’m leaving. Don’t follow me.”
After saying that, he went straight for the door.

Boring? Then why did he take the initiative to sing onstage?
Raul caught up with him in a hurry and shouted, “Milton! Wait up!”
“We’re here tonight to meet with the special envoys from Yamonia. We haven’t seen them yet. We can’t leave now. This is important,” Raul said firmly.
“We’ll meet with them some other time.” Milton stopped walking and added, “I’m not in the mood today.”
Not knowing with whom Candice came to the party, Milton felt annoyed.
Obviously, a male partner was supposed to join her onstage, but whoever it was didn’t show up.
Then he heard some people in the crowd whispering and giggling among themselves. They pitied Candice for being abandoned by her partner.
Next thing he knew, he was coming up the stage and taking the microphone.
What kind of inconsiderate jerk would leave Candice alone onstage like that?
The more he thought about it, the more irritable he became.
“Not in the mood?” Raul repeated, feeling that Milton’s reasons for blowing things off were getting more and more ridiculous by the minute. If he really wasn’t in the mood, then how come he sang in front of everybody just now?
“I just don’t get you, man. The Royal Garden Corporation is your family’s business. I’m just an outsider. I can’t represent it for you,” Raul complained.
“You can choose to go back to the Hinks family. I won’t stop you,” Milton retorted flatly, casting his friend an indifferent glance.
Hearing that, Raul threw his hands in the air in surrender. Working for Milton was indeed challenging, but it was better than crawling back to the Hinks family. So even though Raul wanted to strangle Milton for being so unreasonable sometimes, he’d rather put up with him than return to his awful family.
At this moment, Candice didn’t know that Milton had left.
She looked around the hall, hoping that she’d run into him so that she could thank him face to face.
But she never found him.
All of a sudden, somebody grabbed her by the hand and dragged her to the nearest balcony. The light in the hall was dim.
It was dark out on the balcony, too.
But enough moonlight hit the face of the man who had just taken her outside. His eyes were like a pair of round, obsidian pools.
“Greyson?” Candice frowned.
“Were you expecting someone else?” Greyson replied unhappily.
Candice was taken aback by his question.
“No,” she said lightly. “Do you have anything else to do? My mission for today is over. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving now.”
Greyson was about to say something.
At that moment, Madilyn rushed over with a determined look on her face and pointed at Candice. “Rey, did you see it with your own eyes? She was singing a love song with another man just now.”
Madilyn wasn’t willing to give up causing Candice trouble. Fortunately, she had seen Candice and Milton’s little performance earlier. She could use that to make a fuss.
“I’ve seen that man before. This is not the first time they’ve met. Last time, I saw them having a meal together in a restaurant and being intimate with each other. You believe me now, don’t you?”
