Chapter 579
Chapter 579:
Having reviewed her background information, Candice knew that Belinda had grown up in an orphanage and had only just turned 18. Actually, when that incident occurred, Belinda was still two weeks away from her 18th birthday. But that despicable Corless had shattered her life.
Belinda seemed to have had a rough time at the detention center. Despite her short stay, it was evident that she had been mistreated. She had a wound on her neck, and the unsteady and slow way she walked suggested that her legs were also injured to some degree.
“Are you Belinda?” Candice inquired.
Belinda replied softly, “Yes.”
“I’m your lawyer. My name is Candice Blake.”
As Belinda looked at Candice, a young and attractive lawyer, her eyes turned shy and timid. She had heard that finding a good lawyer for legal aid was difficult. Given that legal assistance was free, who would be willing to take it up? Most lawyers would likely delegate such cases to their assistants instead.
“Tell me about yourself. I’ve read all the information. I’ve read your statement at the police station. Let’s talk about something that isn’t recorded in the documents. What do you think?” Candice inquired.
Belinda didn’t answer.
Frankly speaking, she was exhausted. She didn’t feel like saying anything.
Even if she did speak, what would be the point? Nothing could change what had already happened.
Belinda had gone from being a victim to a criminal suspect, and had even been sent to jail. Her life was in shambles, and she felt hopeless.
Seeing Belinda’s silence, Candice tried to comfort her. “You grew up in an orphanage, and your school performances were always good. But because you couldn’t afford tuition, you chose to attend a vocational high school, graduated early, and started working. Then you applied for an internship at a company called Wilm International Trade Investment Company. You worked as a salesperson, right? The general manager of this company is Corless.”

Belinda trembled when she heard Corless’ name, as if she was remembering a traumatic past. She was terrified. Candice tried to soothe her. “It’s alright. Just tell me what happened. I will help you…”
She didn’t finish her words.
Belinda suddenly erupted with agitation. “What can you do for me? I’ve lost all hope! There’s no way I can defeat him. I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have sued him in the first place. I accept my fate, okay? If only I had realized this earlier, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. My whole life is ruined!”
With those words, Belinda broke down in tears.
Candice disregarded Belinda’s tearful state as she probed further, “Did you hide your age during your internship, Belinda?”
Belinda’s sobbing came to an abrupt halt.
The lawyer in front of her seemed unaffected by the emotional display, leaving Belinda a bit confused.
