Chapter 780
Chapter 780:
At the sound, Candice consciously chose to disregard him. This annoying guy always left her in an awkward situation.
Through narrowed eyes, Milton observed the bashful Candice, who resembled a late-season flower hiding behind a veil of leaves, too timid to expose her true self. Despite their proximity, Candice maintained an aura of youthful innocence, which intrigued him. Her occasional bursts of courage possessed the ability to instantly break down his resolve.
The more Milton pondered over this, the more restless he grew.
Davion’s insinuating words indeed impaired his self-restraint.
Seeing Candice’s deliberate ignorance, he simply strolled over and took a seat beside her.
As she sensed his warm presence, panic gripped Candice, who treated him as if he were a monster. She felt restless, wishing to look away but feeling it was improper. She wanted to rise, but it seemed too intentional. Milton couldn’t tolerate her awkwardness any longer, nor her deliberate avoidance. He pulled her into an embrace with his left arm, a touch of frustration in his action.
The unseen brace that had been affixed to his neck was now gone. Milton turned and gently cradled the back of Candice’s head, planting a kiss on her rosy lips.
With widened eyes, Candice stared back at him. She wanted to push him away, yet was hesitant, fearing her hand might touch his chest. If she didn’t resist, she worried Milton might lose restraint. Suddenly, the doorbell chimed, disrupting the moment.
Milton frowned, cursing under his breath.
Candice sprang to her feet. “I’ll get it.”
She hurried to the entrance without a second thought.
She expected to find Jarrod or other security personnel.
Instead, a uniformed traffic officer stood at her door.
Candice was taken aback. What was going on? Why would a traffic officer visit her residence?
Every story starts at; com
“YUA 888, who is the vehicle’s owner?” inquired the officer, a heap of documents and pictures in his grasp.
“That would be me.” At this point, Milton had joined Candice at the door.
The officer looked up at Milton, a respectful expression washing over his face. The man he faced was evidently affluent or influential. The car’s license plate number itself indicated its owner was a notable figure in Ploville.
“Very well.” The officer nodded, and then produced another image, a snapshot from a road surveillance camera. Although the quality wasn’t sharp, it was evident that a female figure occupied the driver’s seat. “Yesterday, around 4:40 AM, it wasn’t you operating this vehicle, was it?” the officer asked carefully.
“I was driving,” Candice confirmed.
The officer glanced between the photograph and Candice. “So, you are Miss Candice Blake, correct?”
“Yes. How may I assist you?” Candice said, though she had a subtle sense of the situation.
