Chapter 115
Chapter 115:
He reached for the reject button, but Candice surprised him by pressing the answer key for him.
A weak, blubbering Madilyn was heard on the other end.
“Ray, I’m not feeling well today…” she said, her voice trembling.
More urgently, she asked, “When are you coming back?”
Candice stepped back from Greyson, a small grin on her face.
Frowning, Greyson said, “Right now, I need to deal with something. I’ll be back shortly.”
Candice scoffed insinuatingly. It seemed there was no need to drive him away—someone else would eventually pull him from her. Her concerns felt unwarranted.
After Greyson ended the call, he said, “Candice, your family’s business, the Blake Company, was seized by other stockholders after your parents died in a car accident three years ago. Have you ever suspected anything suspicious about it?”
Candice was startled by the question. The mention of the car accident caught her off guard.
“What do you mean exactly? Have you uncovered something?”
Greyson returned to his study and retrieved a file.
It contained a professional genetic analysis and intricate chemical formulations—beyond Candice’s understanding.
He explained, “I looked into news reports about your parents. The company faced an infringement controversy after the disaster. The new product was accused of plagiarizing biotech from Denm. The whole company suffered, losing credibility. Sales dropped, the capital chain broke down, and the company eventually went bankrupt. Then Benson Fuller and Grady Lyons, two stockholders, bought Blake Company at a discount, restructured it, and renamed it. Is that right?”
“Yes,” Candice replied, feeling dejected as memories of those traumatic events flooded her mind.
At the time, she was overwhelmed by grief over her parents’ passing and didn’t care much about the company’s fate. Only after the family went bankrupt and their home was sold to cover debts did she learn what had really happened—but by then, it was too late to change anything.
At first, she didn’t believe it, but after double-checking everything, she realized it was perfectly legal. The bankruptcy settlement had gone through without any issues.

“The head of the company’s development team was the one who plagiarized the biotech. Because of his actions, the entire Blake Company faced legal jeopardy. I’ve examined his confession and found nothing suspicious. The bankruptcy settlement was also conducted lawfully.”
As Greyson wasn’t familiar with legal matters, Candice couldn’t understand why he was saying this.
It seemed Greyson saw through her confusion.
“Admittedly, I’m no legal expert, but I have a background in biology. You gave me your mother’s formula. Recently, we’ve been working on a new medicine based on that formula, and I noticed its chemical structure is very similar to the product that was accused of plagiarizing biotech from Denm—right down to the same protein and DNA chains. Yet, this medicine has nothing to do with that biological medicine on Denm’s market. If your mother created the formula…”
