Chapter 65:
Candice and Bettina returned to the Hope Law Firm after lunch.
It was afternoon.
As they walked through the entrance, Candice immediately noticed a heap of enormous boxes stacked up.
“What’s all this? The corridor is packed!” Bettina exclaimed.
“Where are these from?”
The receptionist answered, “The Royal Garden Corporation delivered them earlier today, but they didn’t say who they were for.”
The Royal Garden Corporation? Bettina’s eyes widened as she turned to Candice.
“I have no idea what these could be,” Candice said, looking confused.
Without hesitation, Bettina grabbed a pair of scissors from the reception desk and opened five of the boxes.
Inside, she found beautiful designer outfits—like evening dresses, suits, and coats—complete with shoes, handbags, and other accessories. They were all Candice’s size. Bettina’s eyes lit up with excitement. She turned to Candice. “Could these be from Mr. Lopez?”
Candice was in disbelief. “It can’t be. Why would he send me clothes? This must be some mistake.”
“Then call him and ask,” Bettina suggested, pursing her lips.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Candice took out her work phone and dialed Milton’s number. “Put the call on speaker,” Bettina said eagerly.
Candice was amazed but complied.
They waited for Milton to answer. When he finally picked up, Candice said, “More than ten boxes of clothes, shoes, and other things were delivered to our office today. Did you send them to the wrong place? Let me know so I can send them back to you.”
Milton responded, “Those are all outdated items from the warehouses of my stores. You can throw them away.” Then he ended the call.
Milton’s response caught the two women off guard. They looked at each other, stunned.
It took Bettina a while to process what Milton had said. Outdated items? He was too proud a man to admit that those things were actually gifts for Candice. But then again, she couldn’t deny that he was pretty cool. She grumbled, “Ha! These are clearly the latest styles from top designers. They’ve got to be worth a fortune.”
“What are we going to do with all of this?” Candice asked, holding her forehead as she looked at the piles of clothing in front of her.
Bettina rolled her eyes. “Wear them, obviously.” She looked disdainfully at the clothes Candice was wearing and said, “There are clothes for every season and occasion. You can throw out your old clothes now.”

Candice was stunned.
Finally, she managed to say, “I don’t want them. Bettina, please get rid of them.”
Communicating with Milton was just too hard for her.
“Okay, I will,” Bettina nodded.
Without wasting any time, she sent someone to deliver the boxes to Candice’s apartment by truck.
Bettina followed the truck there. She disposed of all Candice’s old clothes and shoes, the ones she usually wore, and replaced them with the new items from the boxes. She hung the clothes in the wardrobe and arranged the shoes in the cabinet.
The truth was, Bettina had always tried to buy clothes for Candice, but Candice always turned her down. This was the perfect opportunity. Candice had been wearing the same clothes for ages.
Candice had no idea what Bettina had done. She had assumed that Bettina would talk to Milton and send back the clothes.
Candice simply returned to her office and sorted out materials for recent cases.
During her break later that afternoon, she made a quick trip to the pharmacy to buy a pregnancy test kit. She took the test in a public restroom. Her mind raced as she waited for the result to appear.
When it finally did, she was left in shock. What was this?
