Chapter 974
Chapter 980:
Kori’s face twisted in disbelief. What was Maia talking about? She was just 25! She still had her youth. Maia had gone too far!
Maia sneered, “Bothering Mr. Lopez? He doesn’t have time for you. You are just a D-list star. Started your career too late. You’ll never make it. Dreaming of becoming Mrs. Lopez? Take a hard look at yourself.”
Kori fumed. Every encounter with Maia ended in discord. Her late-blooming career and age were her sensitive points. Previously, she had been a minor actress who went unnoticed. Although she grew up in affluence, she wasn’t among the super-rich elite, leading her to trail behind Cathy and Alta during her school days. Now, her family was financially strapped, making stardom elusive. Yet, she had seized her moment of fame.
Not only had Mr. Lopez offered her a leading role, but she had also won over audiences with her genuine talent. A graduate of a prestigious film school, she was more than just a pretty face.
No longer able to stomach Maia’s insults, Kori shot her a disdainful look. “You, a low-paid secretary, have the nerve to act so high and mighty? It’s clear what you’re after, wearing those plunging necklines. Have some self-respect. You think you’re worthy of Mr. Lopez? I’m Gilmore Cruise’s daughter. What even are you? What’s your claim to fame? Dreaming of marrying a rich man? Don’t fool yourself.”
“Humph!” Maia flicked her hair back and retorted, “Who said anything about wanting to marry rich? You’re the one lost in fantasies. All I want is to be in his world and be his woman. That’s enough for me.”
Kori was too stunned to even berate her. “Maia, you’ve truly been a revelation. I’ve encountered shameless individuals before, but never anyone as audacious as you. You take pride in being a mistress? Seriously? You know what? Arguing with you is beneath me.” With that, Kori opened the door of the office and stepped in.
The spacious office was minimally adorned. On this cold winter day, Sowley Mountain loomed in the distance, blanketed by snow like a massive white tapestry.
Milton was seated at his desk, engrossed in a mountain of paperwork. Kori peeked in cautiously. The dispute at the doorway had been loud enough for Milton to hear, yet he had chosen to ignore it. Now, the room was even more quiet.

Maia, who lingered outside the door, remained silent, not daring to speak.
“Mr. Lopez?” Kori cautiously addressed him. “Excuse me, Mr. Lopez. Do you have a moment to…”
He cut her off briskly, “We’ll discuss this later.”
“Understood,” Kori said in a slightly awkward manner. She felt an overwhelming tension just by speaking to Milton, let alone approaching him.
Just then, Maia entered and said respectfully, “Mr. Lopez, the board meeting is in an hour. Shall I prepare additional materials?” Her underlying message was clear. She wanted Kori to leave.
Not bothering to give her a look, Milton rubbed his temple. His voice was frosty. “I’m aware. Leave.”
Maia hesitated before asking, “Would you like some coffee, Mr. Lopez?” Milton gave her no reply. When he lifted his eyes, his stare was glacial.
Clearly, he felt that Maia had overstepped.
