He watched Candice emerge from another apartment with a confused look. He pointed at her door and asked, “This door, right?”
“Yes. Please help me open it as soon as possible.” Candice gasped, glancing back anxiously, fearing Milton might come out.
“Don’t worry. Take your time. These electric locks can be tricky,” replied the locksmith. He was a man in his fifties with a gentle demeanor.
“I… need to hurry to work. Thank you so much,” Candice said, making up an excuse.
“Sure, no problem. Just give me a moment.” He took out his tools and began working on the lock.
After a long struggle, he finally unlocked the door.
Candice breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”
“You can reset the password later. Just make sure to remember it this time. Could you please sign here?” said the locksmith, handing over his phone.
Candice used her finger to write her name on the screen. The locksmith gathered his tools and toolbox, then left.
Candice pushed the door open and slammed it shut behind her.
A sense of security washed over her—she was finally back in her apartment.
Her mind was still in a daze from what had happened earlier. When she woke that morning, she found Milton sleeping beside her. Even though he hadn’t done anything, the fact they had shared the same bed unsettled her.
Shaking her head, Candice forced those thoughts out of her mind. She quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth, guessing the clothes she wore had been sent by Jarrod the previous night. She recognized the gray suit from Milton’s closet.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Candice noticed how well the suit fit her curvaceous figure. It was as if it had been tailor-made for her.
She stood there, lost in thought for a moment.

Candice couldn’t help but wonder if the clothes in Milton’s wardrobe were really meant for her.
What was he thinking? Why did he assume she would stay at his house often?
Shaking her head again, Candice realized she felt even more confused.
She decided it was best to head to the law office as soon as possible. Only work could clear her head.
After preparing her briefcase, Candice was ready to leave. However, she noticed the cake Milton had brought the day before on the table. Although it had been knocked over, it still looked edible.
Not wanting to waste it, Candice cut herself a piece of cake for breakfast. It tasted delicious—neither too sweet nor too heavy. After finishing, she put the rest of the cake in the fridge.
As she walked toward the door, she paused and changed the password back to her usual one. She would change it again when she thought of something better.
Candice made sure no one was in the corridor before rushing out and heading straight for the elevator. She didn’t want to bump into Milton.
