Chapter 626
Chapter 626:
Candice shot Milton a glance. “You’re the one who’s after Warren Building Materials. I’m just lending a hand.”
“Alright then.” Milton, resting his chin on one hand, fixed his gaze intently on her. “You’ve just saved me a hefty sum. How should I compensate you for this favor?”
His peculiar stare made Candice feel uneasy. His talk of repayment felt odd.
She cleared her throat, averting her gaze. “I’m just doing my job. I don’t need anything in return.”
Milton’s eyes narrowed.
Just doing her job? Was she doing all this for him just because it fell under her professional duties? His discomfort grew at her words and his expression swiftly changed to a darker one.
He was unsure if she was being stubborn or genuinely resilient.
He inhaled deeply, the urge to teach her a lesson rising within him.
Just then, Candice’s gaze landed on a box of band-aids nearby. When Milton bought a bag full of sanitary pads from a convenience store, she vaguely remembered seeing a box of band-aids with them. She had brushed it off then, thinking it was a gift from the store.
But now, she realized her assumption was mistaken.
Quickly, she turned her head, her eyes filled with worry as she looked at Milton. “Are you hurt? Where?”
Milton was left in shock at her unexpected shift in demeanor, finding it somewhat unsettling.
“Eh, just a minor cut on my arm. No biggie.”
Candice’s brow furrowed. “Can I see? Is it from the brawl with Corless yesterday?”
On the brink of reaching for his arm, she inquired, “Which arm is it? May I have a look?”
Swiftly, Milton swerved aside. “It’s fine now. I’d have to strip off my shirt for you to get a good look. It’s somewhat awkward.”

“I need to ensure you’ve treated it correctly. Get that shirt off!” Candice insisted. She was obliviously unaware of the suggestive undertone in her words.
Milton gulped. He undid five buttons and peeled off the sleeve from his left arm. Quietly, he ripped away the band-aid he had applied after showering, deliberately baring the injury.
Candice swiftly grabbed his arm, and her eyes widened as she noticed a conspicuous deep red scratch. With a hint of disbelief, she exclaimed, “You didn’t even apply any medicine to this! You’re so nonchalant about your wound!”
“Merely a scratch from a branch,” Milton dismissed the minor injury.
“The gash is so severe. It must’ve penetrated your coat and shirt. It can’t just be from a branch. And the wound is so clean and precise. Did Corless have a knife with him last night? It was so dark I didn’t see anything!” Candice was only now realizing the magnitude of the situation.
The supposedly casual scuffle from the night before was, in reality, fraught with danger. Corless was armed, and she hadn’t noticed it at all, even though Milton had disarmed him quickly.
