Chapter 767
Chapter 768:
“We were supposed to go to the courthouse.” A realization struck him. While headed to the courthouse, they noticed they were being followed and encountered a car accident. Afterward, he underwent medical treatment at the hospital.
“We were supposed to go to the courthouse first, and then home. Jarrod, turn…” Before Milton could finish, Candice hastily silenced him, placing her hand over his lips.
“Have you lost your mind? You need to recuperate at home first. Don’t stress yourself further, alright?” Candice’s words reflected her concern. Milton removed her hand with his left, his eyes reflecting his displeasure. “You’re against it?”
Biting her lip, Candice refuted, “No. We can discuss it after you’ve recovered, alright? Please, you’re bandaged and your arm is in a sling. Can you first rest?”
“Did Greyson confide in you about something? Do you still believe him?” Milton questioned her.
Caught off-guard, Candice managed to control her expression. She didn’t want to arouse Milton’s suspicion, so she quickly clarified, “No, he really didn’t say anything.”
“Well… It’s about your mother… Could you, you know, give me some time to consider this?” Candice wanted to add something more but then changed her mind.
Milton’s face darkened. Candice was so distant toward his mother. Perhaps she couldn’t let go of the fact that his mother had pushed her down the stairs. There was no reason for her not to care. Milton replied, “Okay.”
He decided to give her some time since he couldn’t push her too hard. In fact, he also needed some time to conduct his investigations.
Candice didn’t say another word.

She was annoyed with herself for not being able to control her tongue.
Greyson had told her in clear words.
“It’s just my advice to you that you don’t get involved so quickly with the Lopez family. Especially without knowing what happened in the past. You need to give yourself and me some time. Okay?”
Damn it! Why was she still affected by Greyson?!
The misunderstandings between her and Milton had cleared up. Candice knew that she was doomed to have a miscarriage. It was fate and not that she had not protected her unborn child. She felt less guilty.
She should feel a bit relaxed.
But Candice didn’t know why she still felt upset. Her breathing increased. If what Greyson said was true and her mother once had an affair with Milton’s father, how could Candice face the Lopez family?
She inhaled deeply and dully turned to look out the window.
