Milton chuckled and replied, “You told me to let go, didn’t you? So, did you want me to hold you or let you go?”
Candice was left speechless by his reasoning. Damn it! That wasn’t what she meant! Luckily, the bed was soft, and she rubbed her back to ease the pain.
As she looked up, Milton’s handsome face loomed close, making her tense up.
Suddenly, her heart began to race, pounding wildly in her chest. She worried it might burst from how fast it was beating.
She didn’t know if it was from the shock of almost falling or something else, but the closer Milton came, the faster her heart beat. She pressed her hand against her chest to calm herself.
Milton leaned in and studied her closely.
Her face was flushed and breathtakingly beautiful. Her eyes were large, almond-shaped, with dark, moist pupils. Her lips were naturally tinted a delicate pink, slightly parted in surprise.
Candice rarely showed such vivid expressions. She was used to wearing a cold, guarded look. But in this moment, her features were stunning—like a sparkling lake reflecting sunlight.
It was irresistible.
Milton suddenly felt his throat dry up.
He couldn’t help but feel the urge to kiss her, to have her right then and there.
But in the end, he restrained himself.
He pulled up the blanket and covered her gently.
“Get some rest. I’m leaving now.”
With that, he stood up and left.
As Candice heard the door close, she let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
The nerves had been too much; she almost forgot how to breathe.
Considering the difference between their heights, physical strength, and fighting skills, Milton could easily overpower her. If he wanted to do something to her, she wouldn’t be able to fight back.

But he didn’t. He just left.
Candice couldn’t understand Milton anymore. He used to be so wild and unpredictable, but now he was cautious.
She had no clue what he was up to.
She buried her face in the pillow, feeling agitated and confused by him.
Candice cursed the Broken Windows Theory. Her resistance toward him was diminishing with each passing day.
What was she supposed to do now?
All she wanted was a good night’s sleep, but it seemed like that was too much to ask for.
Meanwhile, Milton made his way back to Raul’s apartment.
As Raul noticed the seriousness on his friend’s face, he inquired, “What’s wrong? Did you two have another fight?” Raul never really believed that Milton and Candice could make their relationship work. After all, they started off on the wrong foot.
