The moment she stepped into the closet, she was stunned again. The closet was filled with high-end clothing for all seasons, ranging from casual to formal attire. Various luxury bags were displayed on the shelves, including an extensive collection of Hermes bags that Bettina had been fond of collecting.
Candice didn’t know how to feel in that moment. There was excitement, gratitude, and bitterness.
What exactly did he see her as? A caged mistress? He could provide her with all the material comforts and everything she wanted, but he didn’t want her child. She felt as if she was going insane.
Candice had a restful night’s sleep in the comfort of her own home.
The bed was soft, the quilt and pillow comfortable. But above all, it was the familiarity of her surroundings that made all the difference.
When she woke, she glanced at the clock on the bedside table and realized it was already nine o’clock. She hadn’t slept that soundly in a long time. As she looked around, she felt a surreal sensation being in her own space.
As Milton’s personal attorney, Candice had purchased the villa herself using a twelve-year contract.
Getting out of bed, she noticed her entire body felt sore, a result of yesterday’s indulgence. She hadn’t felt the discomfort at the time, but now it was quite intense.
Remembering the events of the night before, she blushed, feeling ashamed of her irrational behavior.
Candice picked up her phone from the bedside table and saw that Bettina had called six times.
Candice had not returned to the resort or informed Bettina, who was undoubtedly worried.
She called Bettina back immediately. After a moment, Bettina answered, complaining, “Candy! What is that phone for anyway? Why weren’t you answering my calls? Explain yourself!”
Candice realized her phone had been muted, which must have been Milton’s doing. He probably didn’t want to be disturbed on the yacht. She had been completely unaware of this. No wonder she hadn’t received any notifications or calls.
“Sorry, I must have accidentally muted it,” Candice said apologetically.
“Forget it. I already know you withdrew the lawsuit yesterday. Did anything happen after that?” Bettina asked.
Candice hesitated, her thoughts returning to what Milton had done to her. “No,” she replied, feeling a sense of shame. If Bettina knew she had slept with Milton yesterday, she would be beyond shocked.
“Where are you? Since nothing happened, where did you go? Where are you right now? Tell me the truth!” Bettina demanded.
“I’m at my home in the Blake family villa,” Candice replied, stressing the fact that it was her own space.
Bettina was stunned.
“You’re home? About the personal attorney contract, I wanted to help you refuse…” Her voice trailed off, surprised by this unexpected turn of events.
