Chapter 1001
Chapter 1009:
“Tonight!” Bettina gasped, entirely unprepared, a whirlwind of emotions engulfing her.
“Bettina, I’m afraid you have to help me handle my house and manage my bank account.”
Candice removed her bank card, credit card, and house key from her bag, extending them to Bettina.
“Candice, I… Oh my! What is happening?” Bettina sat on the sofa, her heart heavy. “This is all my doing!”
Candice slowly squatted down, holding Bettina’s arms. “It’s not your doing. It’s my decision alone. Do not heap blame on yourself, or my departure shall be plagued with unease. Look, Raul is a good man, patient and temperate. With him looking after you, I’m at peace. Promise me, you shall not linger in the past.”
Bettina opened her mouth but said nothing.
Candice knew Bettina well, aware that moving on was no simple task for her. Indeed, Bettina lived with Raul, but their bond was marked by mutual care without any progress. Perhaps, at least for now, Bettina had yet to release the memories of Bart.
As Bettina’s turmoil settled, Candice stood up, mustering a fragile smile. “Bettina, I’ll go back to my office to pack up.”
Bettina suddenly held Candice’s hand and said, “Take good care of yourself. No matter what unfolds, you must contact me swiftly. Agreed? We shall forever be the closest of friends.”
Candice nodded solemnly, her eyes glistening with tears. “Of course!”
In truth, she had no desire to leave, but circumstances left her little choice. Leaving was the only path she could tread, at least for now.
Candice had seemingly vanished into thin air from Ploville, and even beyond Anoh, leaving no trace behind.

It was after two days that the news reached Milton’s ears.
Seated in Milton’s office, Raul delivered the news as soon as it reached him.
As Raul’s words came forth, Milton, overcome with anxiety, clamped down on Raul’s arm and stuttered, “What did you say? Did Candice truly part ways with the law firm?”
“Even more baffling,” Raul replied, mirroring Milton’s disbelief. “She’s cut ties with her legal career altogether.”
Although he had considered a million possibilities, Raul had never imagined Candice giving up her dream job.
Milton’s once-bright eyes dimmed. He couldn’t fathom it and persisted with questioning Raul. “Are you sure about this? You spend every day with Bettina. How were you oblivious to this until now?”
Raul sighed. “Bettina hid the truth from me. It was only by chance, while passing by the law firm today, that I overheard colleagues murmuring in hushed tones.”
