But he couldn’t shake the feeling that Milton had tricked him somehow.
As he was about to leave, he suddenly halted. “By the way, Milton,” Raul said seriously, “you need to be careful of Bart. He hasn’t made a move since he was promoted to vice president, but I suspect he’s planning something behind the scenes.”
Milton waved off Raul’s concerns. “I know. I’ll be on guard. But Bart playing tricks on me? That’s impossible.”
However, Raul didn’t know that Milton hadn’t sent him on the business trip to Oakdale so early because of work. It was simply because Milton had bumped into Candice, who had moved into the apartment across from his, and he wanted some privacy. By asking Raul to leave, Milton would have the place to himself.
Raul frowned and warned, “Don’t underestimate the enemy. I have a feeling he’s up to something different this time.”
Milton cut him off impatiently. “You sure do have a long nose.”
Raul was stunned. “What do you mean?”
“Seriously, why do you keep sticking your nose into my business?” Milton quipped.
Raul was left speechless once again.
Candice tossed and turned in bed all night, unable to fall asleep until morning. When she finally woke, the sun was high in the sky—it was almost noon.
Groaning, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and glanced around the unfamiliar room. It took a moment for her foggy mind to remember she had moved out of her old place. After washing up, Candice made her way to the living area.
Suddenly, the sound of her apartment door unlocking echoed through the air, causing her heart to skip a beat.
The door creaked open.
Candice froze in shock. If it had been nighttime, she would have completely freaked out.
The person who walked in was none other than Milton.
As soon as Candice saw him, she took a step back, annoyance etched on her face. “How could you just barge into someone else’s apartment without permission?” she exclaimed. “That’s illegal trespassing. Do you even understand that?”

Candice had forgotten that Milton knew her usual password. When she moved in, she had kept the previous password. Setting it up yesterday, she had no idea that the neighboring apartment belonged to Raul or that she should be wary of Milton.
Remaining calm, Milton spoke up, “I know the password, so technically, it’s not illegal. If the objective conditions aren’t met, it can’t be considered trespassing.” Candice was left speechless.
It quickly became clear that Milton had done his homework, even studying legal articles to prepare for this. He had really gone the extra mile.
Noticing the large box in his hand, Candice couldn’t help but ask, “What brings you here?”
Without hesitation, Milton walked forward and set the box down on the table. He carefully opened the lid and pulled out a beautifully crafted birthday cake. Turning to Candice, he said, “I came to surprise you. Happy birthday.”
