Chapter 788
Chapter 788:
Milton, engrossed in his paperwork, sampled the coffee without looking up. At that moment, Candice remembered something. “I noticed construction has started behind the villa. The foundation seems unusually extensive. It doesn’t look like you’re planning to build more villas. So, what’s being built there?”
“I’ve bought this property. It’s no longer tied to the group.” He signed a paper with his left hand and then motioned for Candice to join him. “Come here.”
Candice approached, maintaining a deliberate distance. Her initial assumption was a villa complex, with the potential to invite her friend Bettina to live nearby. But it seemed she was mistaken. She didn’t have a clue about Milton’s plans.
“You bought the entire property?” Candice exclaimed, her confusion evident. She couldn’t grasp the rationale behind his acquisition of such a vast expanse of land.
“Yes. My intention is to construct my mansion on this land,” Milton replied nonchalantly.
Candice’s jaw dropped. He had bought the entire land to build the Lopez family’s mansion. What was he up to?
It was prime real estate. Why didn’t he leverage it for business? Building a private mansion seemed extravagant.
But the most alarming revelation was that Milton would become Candice’s only neighbor. To be more precise, her house would be engulfed by Milton’s mansion, almost becoming a part of it!
“Why? Your extensive collection of grand houses isn’t enough for you? The one you’re currently in has a prime location and top-notch amenities. So why the need for another enormous estate here?” Candice waved a finger in Milton’s direction, demanding answers. Milton knew well how to convince her.
With a composed smile, he began to explain, “I’m a businessman. This plot of land is situated right in the heart of everything. Originally, the land-to-building ratio was high, making it suitable for constructing a towering hundred-story structure. By introducing top-tier educational facilities and prestigious high schools, the land value would soar, presenting us with a golden opportunity. But if the proposal is for a cluster of villas, we’ll need a significant chunk of it dedicated to a green park. This would make the cost of each villa escalate. Only two scenarios could then play out. First, the villas become too pricey to offload. Second, the development turns into a financial sinkhole, with the villa owners reaping the rewards of an environment and resources well below cost. In essence, we’d bleed money for someone else’s benefit. So why shouldn’t I snatch up this land for my own use? I get to relish in the tranquility amidst the bustling land. A win-win, don’t you think?”

After Milton finished his words, Candice found herself at a loss for words. After all, Milton was a shrewd capitalist! If he couldn’t turn a profit, he would rather enjoy the spoils himself than let others profit from his loss.
“What’s the matter? Being closer to you should be a positive thing, isn’t it?” Milton lifted his head and gazed leisurely at Candice.
No, it was not good. It was not good at all!
Candice screamed in her mind but couldn’t voice it aloud.
As she observed Milton comfortably seated on the sofa, holding a cup of coffee she had made, Candice’s mind drifted to the tasks he had assigned her in recent days. Despite his injured right arm, which made certain activities challenging for him, he had requested her assistance with his morning and evening showers and with dyeing his hair. Even during his period of rest at home, he exhibited an incessant need to change and coordinate his outfits meticulously. His attention to detail extended to his coffee preferences, drinking habits, and dietary choices. If any condiments in her house failed to meet his taste, he insisted on replacing all of them. Not a hair could be visible to him. All items had to be returned to their designated spots, meticulously arranged to his precise specifications. Milton was afflicted by a severe case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, accompanied by an almost abnormal mysophobia.
