Chapter 609
Chapter 609:
Candice did not feel the cold, yet she couldn’t help but shiver.
Milton had taken away her medication. She had relied on it to endure her unease and pain, but it was evident that the effects had worn off. Her symptoms had not subsided entirely. Nighttime exacerbated her illness, and she yearned for rest, yet she dared not close her eyes.
For as soon as she did, visions of the car accident and the torment inflicted by Corless replayed relentlessly in her mind. She lacked control over her thoughts, let alone a good night’s sleep.
She contemplated requesting her medicine from Milton, but surmised he hadn’t brought it with him, as there was no trace of it in his suit pocket.
After some thought, she decided against asking.
During this period, she discreetly stole glances at Milton.
He leaned his back against the large tree, extending one slender leg while keeping the other bent. Resting his arm on his knee and his forehead on his hand, he closed his eyes. His posture exuded extreme elegance.
Despite being reduced to camping, he maintained his inherent dignity.
The fire cast a gentle glow on his handsome profile, accentuating his chiseled features.
Candice was stunned by his remarkable appearance. He was so strikingly attractive that it was nearly impossible for any woman not to be drawn to him.
Although he was not far from her, she had a feeling that they were not from the same world after all.
Why couldn’t she awaken from this dream-like state?
She found herself lost in contemplation.
Suddenly, Milton opened his eyes and coldly glanced at Candice with his dark gaze. “Have you seen enough?”
Candice was taken aback. She hadn’t expected him to discover her peeping at him.

Being caught on the spot, she turned her face away shyly. Milton frowned. He was unhappy that she stared at him but didn’t want to get close to him.
Just then, Candice heard a rustling sound behind her. She couldn’t discern its source. As she turned around, a small figure darted past her in a blur.
That figure and its remarkable speed!
Like a mouse!!!
“Ah!” Candice let out a scream and jumped up from the ground. Without hesitation, she sprinted and leaped directly into Milton’s arms. She held onto his neck tightly, seeking comfort for her fright. In a jumble of words, she managed to express, “Th-there is a mouse!”
Subconsciously, Milton had his hand on Candice’s waist.
He was fascinated by the intoxicating scent of her skin that hit him. Surprisingly, the lawyer who seemed aloof and superior to clients couldn’t handle herself that well around a mouse! It was endearing to see her nestle up in his arms.
Again, he was mad at the fact that she had refused to get closer to him just a while ago. He was still angry!
