Chapter 836
Chapter 839:
Milton, engrossed in some documents, only looked up when Sigrid began speaking.
With an unimpressed expression and a frown, he said, “I have already said that you don’t need to discuss the designs with me. Direct it to the department head.”
Feeling disregarded, Sigrid experienced a sense of embarrassment. After all the years she had known Milton, she now found herself relegated to interacting with his subordinates. How could she, as a lady of a noble family, be expected to accept this?
Typically, Milton would have exchanged pleasantries with her to maintain family ties. Yet, his previous demeanor suggested otherwise. Was he growing weary of these formalities?
“Milton, I’ve heard your criticisms. Last time, I attempted to blend abstract three-dimensional elements with the currently popular anime style in my work. The result didn’t turn out as anticipated. What is it that you truly desire? I’ve spent countless nights refining this project, and now I want to show you the fruits of my labor. If you find it inadequate, I’ll take it back for revisions,” Sigrid said, showing remarkable humility.
Milton hesitated. His schedule was hectic, and he preferred to wrap up his tasks promptly so he could spend his evening with Candice. The idea of investing his time in Sigrid’s design didn’t appeal to him.
“My personal taste isn’t the end goal here; market approval is. Why focus on what I want when you could be understanding what the market wants?” Milton looked at Sigrid sharply and continued, “You’re a promising modern artist, but art and design don’t always align. Especially in fashion, you can’t let your creativity run wild. Comfort and utility should be your priorities. Your previous design failed because it wasn’t comfortable enough. Aesthetically pleasing isn’t all there is to it; there are many factors to consider.”
Sigrid’s face turned a shade of embarrassed red as Milton berated her. His reputation for being a stern taskmaster was not unfounded. She had tried to feign frailty before, but he deemed her too feeble to continue and nearly forced her resignation. Sigrid was far from pleased.

Could Candice, a young law-savvy woman, satisfy him where Sigrid had failed? If she couldn’t surpass Candice at work, how would she salvage her dignity? Consequently, Sigrid was determined to make an impression with her new work.
“Milton, I’m merely seeking some guidance. Our longstanding acquaintance merits at least that much. Just five minutes of your time,” Sigrid pleaded, adamant that Milton should at least view her work. She handed him a thumb drive. To reject it would be tantamount to severing family ties.
Without a word, Milton accepted the thumb drive, opened the design, and started reviewing them.
Amidst this, Sigrid asked cautiously, “I heard about your injury. Are you recovering well?”
There were three reasons why Sigrid refrained from visiting Milton after his injury. Firstly, he had a tendency to be arrogant and didn’t want others to witness his vulnerable side. Secondly,
