Acting on instinct, he pushed the woman away.
She collided with the protruding leg of the table, exclaiming in pain, “Ah, be gentle. It hurts…”
Candice overheard the words, but they sounded different to her.
Though half-asleep and half-awake, Greyson recognized the voice as Madilyn’s. He angrily opened his eyes and shouted, “Why are you here?”
But the sudden loud noise from Candice snapped Greyson fully awake. He abruptly stood up and shook his head vigorously to clear his vision.
He saw Madilyn lying naked on the messy floor—clear evidence of what had just happened.
Looking up, he caught sight of Candice standing at the entrance.
Confusion, shock, and a whirlwind of emotions flooded his mind. Ultimately, one thought dominated: Damn it! He had been unexpectedly caught in such a compromising situation by Candice.
It felt like a bucket of ice-cold water had been poured over him, chilling him to the core.
The scene before Candice was incredibly unpleasant, prompting her to avert her gaze and cough.
“Sorry for interrupting. Your briefcase was left in my office. I came to return it to you. I’ll leave it here. I’m leaving now.”
With that, Candice turned to leave.
She had noticed the door was open a few minutes earlier and had cautiously entered to see why. Seeing Greyson and Madilyn in that situation completely shocked her. Apparently, Greyson had been lying.
That afternoon, he had persistently questioned her about her relationship with Milton in her office, only to be with a woman like Madilyn behind her back. She had assumed that after Madilyn’s true nature was exposed last time, Greyson would have no more dealings with her. She clearly overestimated him. After all, they had grown up together.

As Candice moved to leave, Greyson grew more agitated. He hurriedly straightened his clothes and rushed after her. Just as she was about to step out, he tightly grabbed her arm.
“Candice, please don’t go!”
His palms were sweaty, and his body felt feverish.
Candice turned to him, the overpowering stench of alcohol nearly suffocating her. She looked at him in confusion, unsure what more he could say.
Greyson shook his head frantically. “No, it’s not what you think.”
Candice sneered. “Greyson, do you think I’m blind? Not what I think? Then what is the truth? You have every right to be with anyone you want. It has nothing to do with me. I’m just repulsed by seeing Madilyn. I’m sorry, but I can’t stay here any longer.”
