Chapter 674
Chapter 674:
Paisley said, “You should be aware that both the Lopez family and the Olson family have distinguished backgrounds. In the upper class, it is not uncommon for the two families to forge matrimonial alliances. I hope you’re not naive enough to believe that your connection with him could elevate you to our status?” Her gaze was pinned to Candice as she carried on, “Such unions, you see, are all about shared benefits. It’s quite the norm for a man to have a handful of mistresses. Take the Lopez family, for instance; Erica’s spouse has a mistress. But you might not be privy to this information.”
Candice remained silent, unaware of the current circumstances surrounding the Lopez family.
Undeterred, Paisley continued, “These mistresses tend to be those in close proximity, like the financial head or a personal secretary. In a large household, it’s impractical for a wife to oversee everything. The noble ladies are aware of this reality, but they prefer to ignore it. For a wealthy woman, her husband’s mistress is akin to a housemaid. However, some ambitious mistresses gain a higher standing and, of course, more wealth.”
“And your point is?” Candice’s patience was wearing thin.
“Candice, your talents don’t go unnoticed. I could use someone like you. The Olson family holds considerable sway in the art world. You understand maintaining a positive image for the auction house is crucial. I need someone competent. If you serve the Olson family, I can provide you with numerous cases, and the commission will be no less than what Erica gives.”
Candice cut her off mid-sentence. “I’m afraid I must decline. My caseload is already overwhelming. However, I can recommend other capable lawyers if you want.”
Paisley’s response was a smile. “Hold on. Let me finish. I guarantee you, once Milton and Sigrid are wed, you’ll have my blessing to be Milton’s mistress.”
After Paisley concluded her words, Candice froze, remaining motionless for a prolonged period of time.
Thoughts raced through Candice’s mind as she questioned whether she had misheard. Was Paisley suggesting that she become nothing more than Milton’s mistress?
In a society that accepted only one partner legally, Paisley dared mention polygamy. Candice was left shocked, her worldviews shaken to their core.
Paisley didn’t miss a beat, stating, “Let me put it bluntly. Sigrid and Milton will get married eventually. I understand that Milton harbors no affection for Sigrid, but that doesn’t hinder the merging of shared interests. He is bound to have a mistress eventually. If not you, it’ll be someone else. It’s better for me if it’s you. If you play your cards right, I’ll sanction your status as the second dominant mistress. This isn’t uncommon among the affluent. I’ll secure you a new identity from a different country. That way, you can be married to him there, under a different name. This will grant you the status of a recognized mistress within his family. After thinking for a while, she added, “I’m even open to the idea of you bearing a child, but not until Sigrid has had the firstborn. Also, you must sign an agreement stating your child will not inherit more than 2% of the Lopez family’s shares. Candice, 2% is a significant share for you. I’m the only one who can make this happen. Sigrid is my flesh and blood. I know her better than anyone. She might resist initially, but I’ll gradually convince her. Eventually, she will come around.”
Upon hearing this, Candice was left speechless for a while. It was beyond her imagination to become a mistress, receive a marriage certificate in a foreign land, remarry overseas, and give birth to a child out of wedlock under an agreement. The high-tier billionaire circle was far more chaotic than she could have imagined. This ludicrous proposition was beyond her comprehension. More shockingly, Paisley seemed to see it as completely normal.
