With growing concern, she became instantly alert. Carefully, she gently pushed the door open and stepped inside, striving to avoid making any noise.
Listening intently, she noticed the entire apartment was eerily quiet, almost unsettling, where even the faintest breath could be heard.
Only a dim wall lamp illuminated the living room, its light barely visible.
Having lived there for some time, Candice was familiar with the place.
Suddenly, her eyes landed on the shoe cabinet nearby.
