Chapter 203
Chapter 203:
Candice seemed to piece it together.
He had prevented her from leaving last night out of concern she’d relapse again, hadn’t he?
She vaguely recalled the last time she nearly relapsed in front of Greyson after holding the key to a Porsche. Greyson abruptly left then.
The two men couldn’t be more different!
Candice took a deep breath as she considered this.
As much as she could, she avoided dwelling on it. In the end, it didn’t matter whether it was Milton or Greyson—they both hurt her. She couldn’t be around either of them. Given Milton’s strange behavior, she couldn’t just change her mind. Quickly, she finished her breakfast.
As she stood up, she said seriously to Milton, “First, thank you very much for your help last night. Second, don’t meddle in the matter concerning Grady. Don’t send anyone to get back at him either. My motivations are my own. I have to figure out a way to deal with Grady and find out more information. I’d hate to see my plan go up in smoke.”
Milton closed his eyes, one hand on his brow, and said, “Alright.”
Candice, seeing that he didn’t respond further, said carefully, “I appreciate the breakfast. I’ll be leaving now.”
Again, Milton agreed with a single word.
Candice couldn’t help but glance back at him as she turned. The sudden redness of his face caught her eye. She remembered how hot he felt just now when she had sat on his body.
She wanted to be a mile or more away from him as soon as possible!
Yet on a moral level, she knew it was wrong. He did help her the previous night.
She turned away, then hesitated, turning back again, wanting and not wanting to stay.
After a moment, she gently extended her hand and lightly stroked his brow.
Then, with a tone of disbelief, she remarked, “Holy crap! You’ve got a fever. You’re so hot.”

It was no wonder he’d been holding his brow all the time. He probably didn’t get much rest last night. And if he took a cold shower after losing so much blood from the wound, he might have caught a cold.
“Get up and go to bed. I’ll pick up some medication for you.”
Candice stepped forward and helped him up.
“Do you want me to contact your personal doctor? Get him to come here?”
She got Milton to his bedroom, laid him down, and tucked him in.
“Or should I try to reach Raul?”
“No,” Milton declined. “Go if you like. I think I’m going to sleep for a while.”
After that, Milton stopped paying attention to Candice and turned his back on her.
Despite her desire to leave, she felt morally obliged to stay. Since Milton had developed a fever, she couldn’t leave him alone at home.
