Chapter 50:
The sunset’s golden glow was intoxicating.
Milton walked out of the fitting room wearing the twentieth suit he’d tried on.
At this moment, Candice felt exhausted. She had been watching Milton try on suits all afternoon.
She had thought he would ask her to try on a lot of clothes and then buy them all for her. After all, that’s what happened in soap operas when rich men took women shopping.
But she didn’t expect him to approve the very first outfit she tried on.
Then Milton began trying on suits himself.
Hours had passed, and he still hadn’t found a style he liked.
Candice didn’t know what to say. She was running out of patience. Shopping was one of the things she hated most. Every time Bettina dragged her out to the mall, she’d only try on a few outfits and be done.
But Milton had already tried on twenty suits, and he didn’t seem tired at all. He kept mixing and matching shirts, ties, pants, and jackets.
He even tried on cufflinks and tie clips. Yet, he rejected every combination. Nothing seemed to satisfy him.
And he kept doing this over and over again.
They had arrived at noon, and now it was almost night.
Outside, darkness was chasing daylight away.
At this moment, Milton approached her.
The high-end, handmade suit he wore was clearly crafted by a top designer. The two buttons on the jacket were inlaid with sapphires likely worth millions. It was an incredibly luxurious ensemble.
“What about this one?” Milton asked.
“It’s beautiful,” Candice answered weakly.
She couldn’t stand it anymore, so she added, “Mr. Lopez, hasn’t anyone ever told you that you look good no matter what clothes you wear? You’re a natural beauty. No, you’re the most handsome man in the world. You have a perfect face and figure. You really look good in whatever you put on.”

She thought that if she showered him with compliments, her shopping-induced suffering would end quickly. So she pulled out all the stops to flatter Milton.
Hearing her words, Milton looked at himself in the mirror, his eyes shining with self-satisfaction.
“Of course many have told me that. But not all clothes deserve me.”
Candice was speechless. She felt completely defeated. At this moment, she really wanted to curse.
How narcissistic this man was!
Milton picked up another tie, held it over his throat, and examined it in the mirror. He shook his head and said, “This suit doesn’t match this tie. Pass.”
Candice felt like weeping, but no tears would come. When would he ever finish?
This vain man must be seriously ill. Besides severe mysophobia, he must also suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
She was dying to ask if he’d forgotten to take his medications today. She gritted her teeth.
“Mr. Lopez, I have other work to do.”
After all, he was her client now. She couldn’t say anything bad to him.
Milton glanced at her indifferently and replied, “It’s written in the contract that your work includes, but is not limited to, traveling, shopping, enjoying hot springs, and dining with me.”
Candice was at a loss for words again. Now she really wanted to strangle Bettina.
When Milton was about to try on the next suit, Candice decided she’d had enough and rose from her seat.
She clenched her fists, and a large, blue vein began to pop out on her forehead. Still, she did her best to restrain her annoyance.
“What time is the party scheduled to begin? We don’t want to be late, Mr. Lopez. Maybe we should go with this suit. It really fits you well.”
Milton raised his wrist and glanced at the face of his ten-million-dollar watch. They were really running late. He thought for a moment and said, “Okay.”
Finally, he changed into the first suit he had tried on, completed the look with a tie and cufflinks, and then walked out.
He truly was gorgeous, like perfection in formal wear. But Candice wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it. All she wanted right now was to leave.
“If you like the first suit best, then why did you try on so many more?”
“To prove that the first choice is right.” Milton got too busy fixing his hair in front of the mirror to notice the expression on Candice’s face.
This little shopping session really left her in complete silence.
