Chapter 683
Chapter 683:
Bettina awoke this time, reaching out in the darkness and clutching Raul, her voice an urgent whisper. “Don’t try to find my brother. I have no desire to return home. Please… let me stay with you.”
Taken aback, Raul looked at her desperate plea, sympathy surging within him.
Letting out a sigh, he lifted her gently, opened the apartment door, and stepped inside, carrying her along. After he put her on the couch, Bettina drifted back into the realm of dreams.
Having entered the living room, Raul switched on the light to illuminate the space. Seated beside her, he observed her closely, finding it uncommon to witness her in such a tranquil state. Her short hair gracefully framed her ears, accentuating her serene sleeping visage and revealing her innate beauty.
He had always known her as spirited and untamed. A captivating essence resided within her gaze.
Suddenly, his eyes darkened.
She was hurt! Despite her high-collared shirt, an abnormal trace marred her pristine neck. For a moment, he disregarded the customary distance and formality that typically exists between men and women. Swiftly, he tugged her collar downward, only to be left stunned by what he discovered.
Her body was littered with red marks. Time had faded some, while others were fresh. His history with past girlfriends allowed him to recognize what these marks signified, but their extent was alarming.
His gaze sharpened as he noticed that there were similar marks on her wrists and ankles. Clearly, she hadn’t submitted without a struggle.
The shock that seized him was profound. What kind of hell had she been put through?
As a Reeves and the founder of the reputable Hope Law Firm, who dared subject her to such torment?
Bettina had overindulged and succumbed to sleep. Her sleeping posture was far from ideal as she rolled over, crossing her long legs, with one arm nearly touching the ground. Raul, seeing this, righted her posture, aligning her arms and legs neatly.

Noticing her slight shivers, he exhaled deeply and ventured to the spare room to fetch a warm blanket. Returning to the living room, he discovered Bettina sprawled on the carpet. Observing her peaceful slumber, he scooped her from the ground and carried her to the guest room, settling her onto the more comfortable bed.
Originally, he intended to avoid any potential misunderstandings by letting her sleep on the couch. Unfortunately, her sleep was consistently disrupted due to her restless behavior. Her injuries only added to her discomfort. Moreover, the risk of falling ill drastically increased if she were to catch another cold, potentially leading to a severe illness. Lying on the soft bed, Bettina exhibited a lack of composure.
She began to stir uneasily, mumbling, “I feel terrible.”
Raul prodded her gently and asked, “Are you alright? How about I get you some water?”
Bettina was struggling, appearing to be in great discomfort. Suddenly, she appeared to snap out of her daze. Gazing at Raul with a bewildered expression, she grasped his arms and unsteadily rose from the bed. “Where’s the restroom?” She held her hand to her mouth, looking like she would throw up.
