Chapter 921
Chapter 926:
“Why are you in such a hurry? I…” Erica began to speak but halted upon reconsideration.
“What? I recall you wanting her to be your daughter-in-law before. Despite the misunderstandings at the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party, she didn’t harbor any ill feelings towards you. In fact, she cleared your name. You should be content with her,” Milton said, arching his eyebrows.
“Yes, I never expected her to relentlessly pursue the truth and prove my innocence. It truly moved me,” Erica replied, contemplating how to disclose a particular matter to him.
“Can you wait for some time? Currently, our family is in turmoil. Your aunt is plotting to seize our shares, and your father remains in a coma. It’s not the right time for you to get married,” Erica urged, hoping to postpone the discussion.
“What does my business have to do with Arlo? I don’t need his approval. Don’t forget that he has never shown any concern for me since I was a child,” Milton replied coldly, a scornful disdain visible in his eyes. He continued, “Enough with the empty talk. I have to return to the meeting. Hand over the household register to me immediately.”
Erica, well-acquainted with Milton’s character, recognized the dire consequences of disagreeing with him. This understanding compelled her to retrieve the household register without hesitation.
Standing behind her, Milton interjected, “Besides, give me the emerald bracelet that Candice returned to me last time.”
These words caused Erica’s frown to deepen, expressing her growing concern.
After a brief pause, she collected the requested items from her room and handed them over to Milton.
Accepting them, he swiftly turned around, intending to depart. However, in a sudden turn of events, Erica reached out and pulled him back, her eyes filled with earnestness.
She said with a gentle urgency, “You are aware that I never meddle in your affairs. You hardly engage in conversation with me either. But would you accompany me to Raleigh? We could visit your father. It has been a considerable amount of time since your last visit. Could you spare a moment to take a glimpse?”

Since she failed to convince him to postpone their engagement, Erica hoped to allow him to witness those items with his own eyes. After contemplating for a while, Milton finally agreed, “Alright. I am available on Wednesday morning.”
After Milton’s departure, Erica sank into the nearby couch, her eyes filled with dull emptiness.
Why had this happened?
What a tragic turn of events! Her husband had never truly loved her, and now her only companion was her son. She had invested all her energy into Milton. He meant everything to her. The last thing she wanted was to see him hurt.
Yet, she had never anticipated such a situation.
Erica found herself unable to voice her thoughts, for speaking out might only lead to a greater tragedy.
An insurmountable gap stood between Milton and Candice.
