Chapter 738
Chapter 738:
“Right,” Candice agreed.
Emerging from the storage room, she took in a lungful of fresh air, an instant soothing sensation. The pre-dawn breeze should have been chilly, but having spent a night in the storage room, to Candice, the wind felt warm and inviting.
At that moment, Candice felt a newfound courage against the previously daunting cold of the storage room. The warm memory of being with Milton last night managed to overshadow her unpleasant past. She was no longer the helpless girl from a decade ago.
Darkness still prevailed. At four in the morning, the street lamps were off.
Milton guided her to where he had parked the previous night.
Candice climbed into the car and secured her seatbelt.
Milton slid into the driver’s seat and fired up the Bentley.
“Time to head home,” Candice announced cheerfully.
Milton hit the accelerator and put the car in motion. Casting a knowing glance at Candice, he posed his question from the previous night.
“Ready to answer my question now?”
“Which question?” Candice queried, her brow furrowing as she looked back at him.
“Why did you want to move my belongings out?” he asked, his voice carrying an earnest tone.
Caught off guard, Candice found herself unable to respond.
She hadn’t anticipated that Milton would remember this unresolved inquiry, even after spending an entire night in the cold storage, and bring it up as soon as they escaped.
The question she had been dodging now seemed unavoidable.
In that instant, they were making their way towards her residence.
Should she ask Milton to pack his things?

“We…” Candice stuttered, uncertainty filling her voice.
“Well?” Milton shot back, an eyebrow arched in anticipation of her continuation.
Summoning her courage, Candice found her voice. “Did you ever consider how others might perceive us?”
Milton appeared baffled. “What’s your point? You’re my woman; that’s clear to everyone. What’s so wrong about us cohabitating? Isn’t that considered normal?”
Candice was stumped. To her, it was anything but normal!
It felt as though she were speaking an entirely different language from Milton.
“We share a living space. What’s the point of it? What does that make us? Are we roommates? It’s inexplicable!”
She had let her thoughts escape, something she would usually refrain from. Milton gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his stunning eyes shining brightly in the soft glow of the car.
His gaze remained fixed on Candice.
