Milton’s expression remained indifferent. “She was framed, and my wine was tampered with. Those are two different things. There’s no connection between them. There’s no excuse for me to shirk responsibility. Regardless of whether I was also a victim, I have hurt Candice.”
Raul realized Milton was deeply affected by Candice’s miscarriage and felt guilty for it.
He sighed. “I finally understand. You feel guilty for what happened to Candice, but you can’t make it up to her by taking all the responsibility. Have you considered the impact on your own image and the Royal Garden Corporation? The stock price has just stabilized, and now it’s about to fall again. What should we do if it crashes?”
Milton frowned at the mention of the stock price. “This is not about compensation. I should be responsible for my actions, regardless of the circumstances. As the leader of the company, isn’t it my basic duty to take responsibility for what happens under my watch?”

After a pause, Milton continued, “There’s no evidence to prove anything was wrong with the wine I drank. Verbal statements aren’t enough. Have you found the person who drugged me?”
Raul replied helplessly, “I’m sorry, but I haven’t. I couldn’t find any trace of that person. I’ve been wondering who could be so capable. Whoever drugged you did it without leaving a trace. Was that person trying to destroy you?”
Milton said coldly, “Since we can’t find proof, I must be punished. Don’t try to convince me otherwise. Whatever the judge decides, I will accept it.”
Raul sighed helplessly. “If you do that, aren’t you letting the person who drugged you off the hook too easily?”
Milton turned around and said, “I don’t care anymore. It’s time to go in.”
After saying that, he strode into the courtroom and sat down in the defendant’s seat.
Raul followed, stamping his feet anxiously. At this point, he could only sit in the courtroom and watch the proceedings. He could no longer persuade Milton. He knew Milton’s temper, and once Milton set his mind on something, not even a miracle could change it.

Judge Fletcher looked down at the court, his eyes settling on Milton, who sat upright and serious.
Candice hadn’t appeared, and the courtroom doors had begun closing.
Watching the slowly shutting wooden doors, Milton felt disappointed. She didn’t come. Was she unwilling to attend court with him? Or did she simply not want to see him?
Withdrawing his gaze, Milton leaned back in his seat, his expression deep in thought.
