Chapter 861
Chapter 864:
It infuriated Bettina to see Bart acting so monstrous, even while appearing so handsome. His words might have been sweet, but his methods were utterly despicable. She had never felt such violated embarrassment before.
Swiftly, she turned around and bolted, eager to distance herself from such a loathsome figure.
Bettina had been staying hidden in Raul’s house lately, which had kept Bart off her track for a while. She was caught off guard when he found her at the Royal Garden Corporation. Frustrated, she resolved she couldn’t keep living like this.
Bart caressed his stinging cheek and found Bettina’s wild spirit alluring. A slap from a wildcat was painful indeed, yet his affection for her only intensified.
A wicked grin spread across his handsome face. Once he gained control of the entire Royal Garden Corporation, there would be no escape for Bettina. Even the Reeves family didn’t dare take any action against him, and they would have no choice but to obediently send Bettina to him.
Not in the state to search for Candice, Bettina headed straight to the Hope Law Firm.
As she neared the corner of the law firm, Candice emerged from the staircase and ran into Bettina.
“Betty, were you at the Royal Garden Corporation?” Candice approached Bettina with a warm smile.
Instinctively, Bettina pulled away, her face tear-streaked. She had planned to freshen up in the restroom, but she hadn’t anticipated running into Candice first. Candice clearly had just returned from the Royal Garden Corporation as well.
Spotting Bettina’s distressed state, Candice gently tugged her aside, noting her reddened, swollen eyes. “Did you cry? What’s going on?”
“Nothing.” Bettina hastily brushed away her tears, but they continued to stream down her cheeks.
“No way. You can’t fool me. You never cry unless something major has happened.” Without another word, Candice pulled Bettina into the stairwell and shut the door to avoid any prying eyes.

“I need you to tell me what happened today. Betty, don’t pretend I haven’t noticed. You’ve been off these past few days.” Candice’s voice carried a serious undertone.
She observed the bruising on Bettina and a subtle masculine scent lingering on her. Having been through it, she knew exactly what happened.
“Who hurt you?” Candice was quick to question. “Was it Bart?! That bastard?! I can’t believe he would! I’ll make him pay!”
Bettina latched onto Candice’s collar and said, “Candy, hold on. Hear me out. If I’ve wronged you, will you forgive me?”
Candice regarded Bettina gravely and responded, “We’re close, right? No matter what you’ve done, I’ll try to understand. Don’t you trust me? Tell me what happened.”
“If I tell you that Bart is responsible for what happened to you on your wedding night and the miscarriage you suffered after being pushed down the stairs by Erica, and that I’m also to blame…” Bettina’s voice broke as she sobbed. “Back then, I was Bart’s target, but then he took an interest in you. He manipulated you and orchestrated the whole thing. It’s all my fault. I was fooled by him three years ago. I didn’t see his true colors, and I let a wolf into our lives, causing you pain. I’m the one to blame. I’ve ruined your life. It’s all on me! It’s me! I’m sorry, Candy.”
