Chapter 476
Chapter 476:
But fate had a different plan, as the two unexpectedly crossed paths.
An awkward atmosphere settled between them.
The gentle autumn sun cast its warm glow, while a breeze rustled the leaves, blurring the surrounding scenery. Breaking the silence, Erica spoke first. “How have you been, Candice?”
Candice replied flatly, “I’ve recovered.”
Glancing at Erica’s phone, Candice realized she was looking for her house — the Blake family villa.
“Did you want to see me?” Candice asked, nodding toward the phone.
She squinted, studying Erica intently. Even if Erica didn’t feel guilty about the miscarriage, Candice expected her to be at least somewhat flustered by this sudden encounter. Why did Erica seem so composed?
“Yes.” Erica lifted her head and met Candice’s gaze with full attention. “I wanted to know how your recovery was going. I also wanted to confirm if this is truly your residence.”
Erica had previously asked about Candice’s relationship with Corrine, so her presence now was to verify that information. Finding the Blake family villa suggested a connection between Erica and Candice’s mother.
Candice refrained from asking questions.
Instead, she gestured to a spot not far behind her. “You can see for yourself that this is my home.”
Since Erica didn’t mention what had happened that night, Candice chose not to bring it up either.
Unexpectedly, Erica nodded knowingly and asked suddenly, “Candice, do you believe I pushed you down the stairs?”
Candice furrowed her brow, pressing her lips together.
After the incident, Candice and Bettina reviewed the surveillance footage. It showed only Candice and Erica exiting the party hall, standing alone at the entrance. No one else appeared on the monitor.

It was an undeniable fact, though Candice hadn’t personally witnessed Erica pushing her from behind.
Erica maintained a poised demeanor. “It doesn’t matter. You’re free to misunderstand me. I have no desire to defend myself.”
Candice was caught off guard by Erica’s response. It seemed Erica was denying it. But how could that be? It wouldn’t make sense if it wasn’t Erica who did it. Could there have been a third person present?
Erica continued to gaze intently at Candice, her eyes locked on hers.
Suddenly, she asked, “Do you love him?”
Candice was bewildered, not understanding the situation. She knew Erica was well aware of her past, but she couldn’t tell whether Erica was referring to Greyson or Milton.
Observing Candice’s furrowed brow and confused expression, Erica asked again, “Do you love my son?”
Candice froze. How could she answer such a question? Did she love Milton?
