Chapter 931
Chapter 937:
He remembered her fear of abandonment, casually mentioned in that questionnaire.
His heart clenched, and a smirk slowly spread on his face. He hadn’t responded to her at the time, knowing that the following night would be the perfect assurance. He was ready to offer her his all; from then on, she would be solely his.
Lost in thought, Milton unknowingly covered more than half the distance.
As he left the borders of Ploville behind, he accelerated. His mood, however, soured.
Merely thinking of his father cast a shadow over Milton’s mood.
His father’s presence had been largely absent throughout his entire life. It was a rarity for Milton to see his father return home, and emotional interactions between his parents were non-existent, not even a fleeting look of concern. His father showed no interest in his academic achievements or career trajectory.
It wasn’t a simple estrangement between his parents; it felt more like an ongoing cold war. Milton was aware of his father’s lack of affection for his mother, considering their marriage as just a business transaction.
But it didn’t really bother him much, his whole family situation. He grew up with no emotional scars.
That was all thanks to his mother, Erica, who was gentle and kind. Her love and care made up for what he lacked due to his absent father.
Milton picked up speed, eager to get it over with.
If it weren’t for Erica’s request, he wouldn’t have bothered seeing Arlo at all. His father was unnecessary to him.
Whether his father was alive or dead held little or no significance for him. They were practically strangers.
When Milton finally reached the coastal manor in Raleigh, it was already half-past four in the morning.

The manor was shrouded in eerie silence. The moonless night only revealed darkened tree shadows, and the relentless sound of crashing waves filled his ears. He noticed Erica’s car parked by the entrance of the main building, signaling her arrival.
Without notifying Erica of his presence, Milton, feeling exhausted, decided against heading to the second floor to visit his father. Instead, he collapsed onto the guest room bed on the first floor, still fully dressed. He would rest for a few hours before daybreak.
However, when Milton eventually woke up, it was already nine o’clock. He muttered a curse, surprised at having slept for such a lengthy period. Time was not on his side. He couldn’t afford to linger here, as the journey back would take over three hours.
In haste, he reached for his phone and discovered a message awaiting him.
He checked it and saw that it was from Candice, sent earlier that morning.
