Chapter 491:
Candice took the thick stack of papers in her arms, feeling defeated.
As she turned to leave, Milton suddenly stood up and quickly walked behind her.
“Sigrid is my senior in college, and…” he said, his tone serious.
Candice frowned, wondering what he was trying to say. “So?” she asked before he could finish.
“Does that mean I should apologize to her?”
Milton furrowed his brow, visibly perplexed. “You really think so?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Candice retorted sarcastically. “You asked if I had something to say, didn’t you, Mr. Lopez? Did my answer satisfy you? Did I manage to humiliate your precious Sigrid? Humph!”
With that, she stormed out, not bothering to look back. The resounding slam of the door was the loudest noise she had ever made. Candice had always been a master of self-control, but the mere mention of Sigrid unleashed her fury.
Milton’s eyes narrowed as he watched Candice’s enraged exit.
He couldn’t stand hearing her call him Mr. Lopez. Each time she did, it felt like mockery, stirring within him a desire to punish her with a forceful kiss.
Why was she so angry? What could be her reason?
By chance, Raul approached Milton’s office and crossed paths with Candice just outside the door. Witnessing her livid expression, he cautiously nodded in greeting, not daring to speak.
Candice’s decision to drop the lawsuit brought relief to Raul. Otherwise, Milton would have been drowning in endless troubles. Secretly, Raul suspected Candice harbored feelings for Milton. Given her stubborn nature, she wouldn’t have backed down so easily otherwise.
Though Candice had divorced Greyson, obstacles between her and Milton remained. He needed to find a way to prove that Erica hadn’t pushed Candice down the stairs. Without that, they’d hit a dead end.
Raul entered the office to find Milton standing on the porch, lost in thought.

Treading lightly, he inquired, “Milton, what’s wrong? Did you two have another argument?”
“What do you mean, ‘another’? Why would I argue with her?” Milton scowled.
Casting a glance at the door, Raul continued, “Candice seemed furious. Did she see Sigrid today?”
“They ran into each other,” Milton admitted.
“Did Candice say anything?” Raul’s curiosity was piqued.
“What would she have to say?” Milton replied, still confused.
Raul rubbed his forehead, exasperated by Milton’s cluelessness about women. But then again, it made sense; as a man who rarely interacted with women, how could Milton possess such insight?
Feigning a cough, Raul cleared his throat and shared his thoughts. “Candice saw Sigrid, and her anger flared up again. I suspect she might be jealous.”
Milton studied Raul, intrigued.
