She truly loved Milton.
And what about him? He was only her ex-husband.
But he had discovered the truth—that she was the one who saved him in Overshow. What use was this knowledge now? He had destroyed everything by himself.
He couldn’t comprehend it.
In a daze, he turned and left Candice’s office.
Bettina encountered Greyson at the entrance of the law firm.
He appeared distressed and preoccupied, standing by the elevator with a vacant expression. However, he had neglected to press the down button, so the elevator didn’t arrive, and he continued to wait.
Growing impatient, Bettina stepped forward, cast a quick glance at Greyson, and pressed the down button for him.
“Thank you,” Greyson said, returning to his senses.
Bettina observed Greyson standing before her. Despite their long-standing acquaintance, she had never seen him in such a state. Typically introverted and astute, he seldom displayed his emotions on his face. Bettina recalled their previous conversation at Harmony Hospital.
“For how many years have we known each other? Can’t you be on my side? I promise to never let go of Candice and make things right again.”
It turned out he had truly meant his words and taken action.
Presumably, he had attempted to remarry Candice, only to be rejected.
Loneliness was etched across his handsome face, evoking sympathy from Bettina. After all, they had known each other for many years.
Bettina offered her persuasion. “Given your qualities, there must be plenty of girls interested in you. Don’t be so stubborn. It would put everyone at ease.”

As the elevator arrived, Greyson stepped inside and turned to face Bettina.
Disappointment filled his eyes, and he suddenly proclaimed, “Bettina, I cannot accept any other women in my life.”
The elevator doors closed once again.
Bettina stood there, unable to speak, absentmindedly touching her forehead. What could possibly be the matter with him? What was he going to do?
After Greyson’s departure, Candice immediately contacted the law firm’s cleaner to tidy up the scattered desserts on the floor. She also removed the coffee-stained carpet beneath the table, arranging for it to be cleaned.
The office was soon clean again.
Afterward, Candice settled back at her desk and resumed her work.
Her mind was in disarray. Although she immersed herself in her tasks, she couldn’t fully concentrate. Random thoughts kept intruding.
Unconsciously, she worked well into midnight. Most of the law firm staff had already left, except for a few assistants staying behind to complete urgent tasks. She rose from her seat and stretched her stiff limbs.
