Chapter 735
Chapter 735:
“Why didn’t you inform me about the dinner party tonight?” Milton inquired.
“Didn’t I share my whereabouts with you? I’m certain I left you a message. Could my memory be failing me?”
Candice feigned confusion.
“Candice.” Milton suddenly pinched her chin, his tone heated. “Don’t play games with me, Candice. You kept it from me on purpose! Now, tell me why.”
Feeling guilty, Candice averted her gaze. She murmured, “I just forgot. There’s no particular reason.”
Suddenly, she encircled his waist with her arms, her voice barely above a whisper. “I planned on sending you the address post-dinner. As I stepped out, I dialed your number. But then, I blanked on the words to say. Regardless, I’ve carried out your instructions. I don’t want to pen a self-reflective note.” Milton was left wordless.
Her audacity left him flabbergasted.
He took a moment to compose himself, undeterred by Candice’s flirty antics, and resumed his questioning. “Why were you consuming alcohol behind my back?”
“I swear, I refused to drink in the first place. But they told me the beer was light and insisted I have some. I merely had a small amount,” Candice retorted defensively with a pout.
“Just a small amount? Then why were you in such an intoxicated state? Do you seriously think I’d buy that?” Milton challenged, his brows furrowed.
“Alright, maybe I had a few glasses. But I’m not under the influence anymore. I’m clear-headed now,” Candice asserted.
Out of the blue, Milton clasped her chin, closing the distance between their faces. “Clear-headed, you say? Then how could you behave that way towards me?”
“Behave how?” Candice played dumb.
“Just before, wasn’t it you who claimed that if I don’t wish to endure, I shouldn’t…”
Milton’s words trailed off, cut short by Candice’s hand muffling his mouth.

“Don’t spew such absurdities. You misconstrued my words and voiced a bunch of bizarre statements. I didn’t mean what you think I did, nor did I ask you about it.” Candice’s cheeks flushed crimson. She was determined not to confess to uttering such unseemly words in her heightened state of excitement while sharing a kiss with him.
A teasing grin crept onto Milton’s face. He was well aware that Candice was a bashful creature, and her bold move to initiate a kiss had indeed stretched her comfort zone.
He then gently removed her hand from his mouth. “Why did you mention moving my belongings out tonight?” he inquired.
He playfully pinched the tip of her nose, wearing an enigmatic expression, and said, “You have the guts to confront me about it now, huh?”
For a moment, Candice was at a loss for words.
Hopelessness seeped into her veins, overwhelming Candice.
Seriously? Couldn’t he just let it go?
