Chapter 784
Chapter 784:
A frown etched onto Milton’s face, an air of discontent swirling around him. But all he could do was relent.
Candice answered the phone and put it on speaker.
“Good day, Officer Griffin. How may I assist you? Is there an update regarding the case?”
From the other end of the line, Rupert responded, “Greetings, Miss Blake.” Aware of Candice’s profession as a lawyer, Rupert divulged some information.
“Cathy Warren has regained consciousness after emergency treatment. Following her interrogation, she’s confessed her deeds. Consequently, she’s under arrest. Upon case resolution, she’ll be passed on to the prosecutor’s office for trial,” Rupert stated.
“Could you elaborate? Why did Cathy commit these acts and what led her to the logistics area?” Candice inquired. She was certain Milton and Bettina had a hand in her being privy to such sensitive information, given their influence with the authorities.
Rupert clarified, “According to Cathy’s confession, following the takeover of Warren Building Materials, her brother Corless was jailed and now heavily in debt. Thus, her inheritance, family savings, and villa were all consumed to settle the debts. Left homeless, Cathy harbored resentment, and with the help of an accomplice, embarked on her illicit journey. She hired a veteran.”
“Accomplice?” An intrigued Milton chimed in upon hearing Rupert’s words.
“Indeed, Mr. Lopez. And you’re familiar with Cathy’s accomplice. He’s been arrested and faces trial. It’s Brayden Dury, the CEO of Dury Group,” Rupert said.
“Brayden? He was involved?” Milton reacted with surprise.
Milton was well-acquainted with Braylen. They had previous business transactions, but the subpar quality of Braylen’s work led to the dissolution of their partnership.
“Braylen? He was Cathy’s accomplice?” The revelation also startled Candice. “I’ve only met him twice. Once at a small private gathering, and once at an indoor golf range.”

She cast a glance at Milton as she spoke.
Milton should have a clear understanding of it since he was with Candice on both occasions. The first time, Milton had sought her opinion on Braylen’s character. From her observation, Braylen, a man past forty with sagging eye bags and waning muscles, appeared indulgent and lacked discipline. Candice concluded that Braylen was overly indulgent in entertainment and desires, making him an unsuitable and unreliable collaborator. Therefore, she shared her analysis with Milton. Subsequently, Milton didn’t award the golf project to Braylen. Furthermore, at the gathering, Braylen verbally harassed Candice. When his attempts to take advantage of her failed, he resorted to doing something malicious behind her back. She clearly recalled the spiked drink handed to her by Braylen.
Their second encounter was when Braylen brought Cathy and Alta to an indoor golf session. Candice and Milton emerged victorious in a match against them. Could Braylen’s grudge have stemmed from these trivial incidents?
Rupert pressed on. “Indeed, Braylen has confessed. He was unhappy with your treatment and Mr. Lopez’s. He felt you badmouthed him to Milton, leading to a significant drop in his business. His goal was to teach you a lesson through Cathy. But he vehemently denies conspiring with Cathy for murder. He only acknowledges giving her money, assuming she’d hire someone to scare you, not endanger your life.”
