Chapter 92:
Running as fast as she could, Candice left the court behind.
It wasn’t until she hailed a taxi that she finally slowed down.
Her heart was still racing, and her breath came in gasps.
Checking herself in a compact mirror, she noticed her lips were red and swollen, and she wondered how to conceal them. Excitement still coursed through her veins as she thought about Milton’s passionate kiss that had left her powerless and unable to resist for over ten minutes.
Covered in sweat, she finally regained her senses. The view outside the window blurred past her as the taxi sped on.
With effort, Candice calmed herself down and tried to sort out her thoughts. Milton had kissed her forcibly in the court, despite knowing she was married to Greyson. What kind of man had no moral conscience or ethical bottom line? Candice thought to herself. Shaking her head, she tried to dismiss what had just happened as a dream.
It felt unreal to her.
Upon arriving at the law firm, Candice pushed open the door.
In the hall, Bettina and Mona were chatting until they saw Candice.
At that moment, Candice’s face darkened.
“Did you know about it?” she demanded, her anger rising, addressing Bettina.
Bettina said nothing, but Candice was convinced that Bettina had known Milton was that man all along. That could explain why she tripped Candice to make her fall into Milton’s arms and why she let Candice become Milton’s personal attorney.
With a shrug, Bettina said, “Yes, according to the DNA bank information, Mona found out immediately after she started handling the case. She told me the man you slept with on your wedding night was Mr. Lopez.”
“He should have gone to 8308. He went to the wrong room,” Mona giggled.
Bettina pouted and said, “I tried to tell you, but you didn’t want to listen. Who’s to blame?”
Furious, Candice pointed at Bettina. Bettina had been trying to get Candice and Milton closer, and now she finally understood why.
“How did it go? Is it settled?” Bettina asked, grinning as she approached Candice.

“In your dreams!” Candice replied. She couldn’t bring herself to be angry with Bettina—only blame herself.
“It’s time for me to go to another city for a trial. Since you know about this matter, you can handle it yourself from now on,” Mona said, glancing at her watch. “All the materials are on your table.”
Mona had completed her task as an outsider.
After saying that, Mona smiled brightly, picked up her briefcase, and left the law firm.
“Oh, by the way, some parcels were sent here this morning. They’re for you, but there’s no sender’s name,” Bettina informed her. Turning around, Bettina took several large boxes from the front desk.
In front of Candice, she pulled out a paper cutter.
“I’m going to open them for you.”
Bettina opened the first box, revealing an orange Hermes carton inside.
“Wow, what could this be?” One by one, Bettina opened the boxes and took out the bags.
“Himalaya diamond platinum bag! Wow! The bags are decorated entirely with diamonds. Oh my God! I’ve been waiting in line for a year and still couldn’t get one!”
Squatting on the floor, Bettina looked at Candice and asked, “Did Mr. Lopez give these to you as gifts? No one else could do this!”
Candice suddenly remembered how he had helped her out of trouble at Wilmint High School and even mentioned giving her three bags.
She had thought it was just an act, but it turned out to be true.
At that time, she had no idea he was the same man who had ruined her life.
As she looked at the bags, she couldn’t help but recall the humiliation he caused her in court and the forced kiss.
Anger surged within her. “Who cares about his gifts? Throw them all away!”
“Please don’t do that,” Bettina begged, protecting the three rare Hermes platinum bags as if they were precious treasures. “If you don’t like them, you can give them to me. I couldn’t get one myself. Please don’t throw them away!” she pleaded.
“Bettina!” Candice exclaimed in annoyance. “What are you thinking? You know exactly what he has done to me! I don’t want his things.”
Candice moved to grab the bags from Bettina, intent on throwing them away.
