Chapter 689
Chapter 689:
Candice posed a question, her voice filled with confusion. “Why did you disclose this to me? What can I do for you?”
Milton, looking at her through the video call, responded gently, “You don’t have to do anything. I simply want to explain why I needed to come here in person. It concerns Raul. Once the project is settled, I will transfer all the relevant shares in Denm’s company to Raul. This will serve as a chip for him to bring down the Hinks family.”
Candice remained silent. She understood that Milton and Raul shared a bond that surpassed ordinary friendship. Both men were fiercely loyal to one another, and Raul treated the Royal Garden Corporation as his own home.
“The acquisition of Warren Building Materials will be finalized within a week,” Milton informed her. “Along with the resort in Wenkin, they will all be packaged and mortgaged at a favorable price to the Royal Garden Corporation. Your contributions to this acquisition have been significant. The directors have suggested that you be present at the celebratory meeting.”
“I won’t go,” Candice promptly refused, displaying no hesitation.
A faint smile appeared on Milton’s lips. “I knew you would say that, so I declined on your behalf. You have no interest in the shares of Warren Building Materials. And you don’t want to attend the celebratory meeting. What is it that you want?”
“Nothing,” Candice replied firmly.
“I sent you numerous messages. Why didn’t you respond when you woke up?” Milton seemed unhappy.
“I didn’t see your messages,” Candice replied perfunctorily.
Milton sensed her unhappiness because she had adopted an unfriendly tone. Her eyes drifted to the side, away from the screen, as she spoke to him.
He asked directly, “Is it because I hurt you last night? Are you still not feeling well?”
Candice was left speechless, her face turning red. How could he ask such questions? She chose not to respond, not wanting to engage. Did this man possess any understanding of others’ thoughts?
Observing her silence, Milton said gently, “I’ll be more careful next time.”
“Shut up!” She locked eyes with the screen and declared, “Don’t bring up this topic anymore! I’m going to hang up!”
Having said her piece, she prepared to hang up the video call.
“Wait!” Milton stopped her, his tone filled with indignation. “Don’t you dare hang up!”
Candice was speechless. She could have ended the call right away, but instead, she found that she feared making him unhappy. It seemed as though she needed his permission before she could hang up the phone. Once daring and bold, she now hesitated. She couldn’t fathom why she felt compelled to listen to him. Regardless, it was an extraordinary situation.
“What else?” she asked weakly.
“Nothing. Can’t I just look at you?” he queried.
“Don’t you sleep? It’s almost dawn over there,” Candice said, yearning to end the conversation as soon as possible.
“Are you concerned about me?” Milton stared at her intently.
