Chapter 745
Chapter 745:
A nurse strode in and, upon spotting Greyson, addressed him with reverence. “Principal Harman, law enforcement officers are here. They’re at the emergency room entrance, wishing to question Candice about the accident details.”
His brow creased, Greyson responded, “I got it.”
In haste, Candice arose from the bed. Greyson saw no reason to hinder her. Her head throbbed from the impact, and her footing was shaky. She managed to shuffle to the door, leaning on the wall to keep from toppling over.
Distressed, Greyson stepped in to lend support. “I’ll take you there.”
Upon reaching the emergency room, they found Milton had been moved there from resuscitation. His vital signs were steady, yet he remained unconscious.
Two policemen stood at the door, observing as Candice approached.
They stood up, producing a notepad, ready to start their questioning.
Candice recounted the previous night’s events to the officers, from being ambushed in the back lane of Vanilla Taste to being trapped in a cold storage, and eventually being followed after their escape.
Greyson had anticipated learning about Candice’s ordeal, but other doctors summoned him away for a patient emergency.
“After your inquiries, investigate thoroughly. It’s my belief the incidents were orchestrated by a single individual,” Candice said after answering their questions. She then queried, “What’s the status of the car that caused the commotion?”
Frankie Ortiz, one of the officers, looked up to answer. “Your suspicion is correct. The person who ran into you was Cathy Warren. She’s critically wounded, in a coma, and still receiving intensive care.”
Candice was taken aback. It was indeed Cathy, who seemed hell-bent on a suicide pact with her.
Frankie pressed further, “You mentioned Mr. Lopez was the driver, correct? And you were seated on the passenger’s side?”
Candice gave a nod of affirmation.

Frankie, with a puzzled look, questioned, “So why are you unscathed when he’s unconscious? Ordinarily, the passenger takes the brunt of the impact in a collision like this.”
The shock struck Candice. It seemed there was truth in his words. Her mind had been too chaotic and worried to contemplate it earlier.
Just then, Rupert Griffin, another officer with a former career in traffic enforcement, brought out his ledger of traffic accidents. His expertise was in analyzing car crash scenes and the signs they left behind.
He presented Frankie with a photo of tire skid marks from the accident site, remarking, “Typically, a crash like this results in severe injury, even fatality, for the passenger. However, it’s clear Mr. Lopez intentionally veered the vehicle toward the passenger’s seat despite knowing the imminent danger. This is why Candice remains unharmed, but he’s injured. The tire marks speak for themselves.”
A surprised Frankie exclaimed, “But in peril, one’s instinctual response is self-preservation! It is instinct! What could possibly compel him to alter the vehicle’s course? It’s unthinkable! It’s almost impossible!”
Rupert simply shrugged his shoulders and replied, “I can’t say for certain, but Mr. Lopez did. Perhaps…”
