Chapter 39:
“Interesting.” Healy straightened his back and tapped on the table with his fingers. “Mr. Harman, now we are talking.”
As expected, Healy sought financial gain. The financial situation at Universe Financial Group had been dire lately. He saw this as an opportunity to get a sum of money from Greyson.
Greyson remained silent, expecting Healy to make a high demand.
“Not much. Five times will do just fine.” Healy slouched in his chair, casually shaking his legs.
“Five times?!” Brooks nearly sprang to his feet at that. He knew Harman Pharma’s situation too well. With the one billion he had withdrawn to repossess Harmony Hospital, Greyson was nearly broke. Another four billion would be enough to put Harman Pharma into a cash flow deficit for the foreseeable future.
“Five billion dollars, Mr. Glyn, is enough to establish several new medical facilities. My boss’s father had only borrowed two hundred million from you back then. You’ve reaped much more than that from Harmony Hospital over the years.” Brooks was visibly angry.
Healy threw his hands up and said, “But, even if you establish a number of hospitals, they are not Harmony Hospital, the legacy of the Harman family. You have the option to entirely give it up if you want. Then Universe Financial Group would be the official owner of Harmony Hospital forever.”
While listening to that cocky guy, Greyson’s fists clenched.
Indeed, Healy was right. Harmony Hospital held great significance for him.
“No, Mr. Glyn, you can’t just make up a price. Give me a number that works for both of us. We can’t go with five times.” For now, Greyson had to continue negotiating. He was aware that he was being blackmailed, but there was nothing he could do about it.
“I know five times might sound crazy, but I bet you can do three times. I’m not going to play games with you, Mr. Harman. If you can get me three billion, then we can talk. What do you have to say about that?” The avarice in Healy’s eyes was palpable.
“We only have one billion available, Mr. Harman. We don’t have that much money,” Brooks reminded Greyson.
He had witnessed Greyson’s struggles over the years. Under Greyson’s leadership, the once-failing business had been revived. If Greyson gave them three billion instead of one billion, he would have to work tirelessly for another two to three years.
But Greyson waved his hand dismissively and said, “I’ll devise a plan to get the money. It’s imperative that I reclaim Harmony Hospital first.”
His voice grew hushed, and his eyes dulled as he spoke, determined to reclaim his medical facility at any cost.
Suddenly, he raised his eyes to Candice, who sat beside Healy.
He had never seen her look so elegant before. She looked like a consummate businesswoman, polished and savvy, her attitude perfectly framed by a stylish pair of gold-rimmed glasses.
This was the real her, and he hadn’t realized it until now.
He couldn’t stop staring. Her expression was impenetrable. If her plan was to get back at Greyson, she had clearly succeeded.
Reclaiming the hospital would bring a new financial catastrophe, and he would face another wave of challenges. The struggles he had endured to restore Harmony Pharma would have to be repeated.
Candice understood this.
She had figured out how to deliver a fatal blow. She stared at Greyson without emotion.
With no other choice, Greyson said coldly, “Three billion. Deal.”
Healy clapped his hands eagerly. “Come on, Mr. Harman. Let’s finish the deal and get it signed.”
Healy then urged Candice anxiously, perhaps worried Greyson might back out, “Put it on paper already! What’s holding you back?”
But Candice interrupted, saying, “Wait.”
She stood up and said, “Regarding the mortgage contract from a decade ago, there is one more crucial detail I have not yet mentioned. Once I finish, you may proceed.”
Greyson’s expression darkened as he listened.
What else did she intend to use against him?
