Chapter 517

Chapter 517:
After finishing the handover, Candice stretched her stiff shoulders and thanked Mona. “Your own cases are piling up, and you still have to help me with mine. Thank you very much.”
Mona smiled as she put away the materials. “Don’t worry about it. Just leave them to me. You’ve submitted the defense and have a clear idea of every case. I just need to follow the process step by step. I don’t even need to rack my brain.”
Candice nodded gratefully, feeling fortunate to have such a competent co-worker.
Mona gently patted Candice’s arm and said, “Candice, I must say, I truly admire your sharp insights in these types of cases. You always seem to find the tricky points of penetration, and I must admit, I’m impressed by your familiarity with the rules.”
Candice quickly deflected the praise. “Oh, Mona, I don’t possess your keen sensitivity to criminal investigation, nor your remarkable ability to observe the minutiae of a situation. We complement each other, really. In fact, I could use your guidance in other aspects of our work together. You need to teach me some of your skills.”
Mona chuckled at the thought. “Ah, the quest for omnipotence! But seriously, Candice, don’t hesitate to ask for my help whenever you need it. I’m always here for you.”
With a warm smile and a nod, Candice gathered her things and bid farewell to Mona. “Bye.”
As she walked down the corridor, she ran into Bettina, who looked eager to share some news.
“Candice, you won’t believe this. The CEO’s secretaries at Royal Garden Corporation just called the front desk. They’ve been trying to reach you, reminding you to go to the CEO’s office at noon today.”
Candice’s eyes widened in surprise. “Oh no! I had my phone on mute and completely forgot to turn up the volume.”
She patted her forehead and said, “My memory seems to be failing me lately. How frustrating!”

She couldn’t shake off the disgust she felt after leaving Greyson’s apartment the night before. To avoid his late-night calls, she had intentionally silenced her phone. Now, she regretted the oversight.
She quickly took out her phone and unmuted it.
Bettina demanded, “Tell me the truth. Why does Milton want you in his office every noon?”
Candice met Bettina’s suspicious gaze and replied, “Milton has assigned me a confidential case that I can’t discuss right now. Once it’s resolved and all charges settled, I will report it to the law firm.”
“Oh. Would you like me to order lunch for you? What would you like to eat?” Bettina asked.
“No, Milton will provide lunch. I have to leave now to review the materials.” Glancing at her wristwatch, Candice realized it was getting late.
Bettina pouted. “Well.”
Candice nodded and left.
