It was clear to her that she must have misunderstood.
A scowl crossed her face as she asked, “And after that?”
Greyson thought for a moment and replied, “You majored in law in college and now run your own firm. To put it bluntly, you’re not competent to oversee a biotech firm. I can handle it once the acquisition is complete. What do you say?”
Candice burst into laughter. “I was wondering why you offered to help me in the first place. It turns out you want to use me to uncover the truth behind the Blake Group’s bankruptcy so you can acquire it. You just want to grow the Harman Group. Your willingness to help is just a pretext. That’s why you’re really here!”
Greyson scowled. This was not what he had intended.
Candice snapped, “You need to wake up from your fantasy. I will reclaim control of the Blake Group on my own. You don’t need to worry about its operations.”
“Where are you going to find all that cash?” Greyson asked, dissatisfied. “Don’t kid yourself. Successfully managing a business isn’t the same as winning a court case. Even if you don’t want me to run the firm, I can still get it back for you.”
“I can do it without you. Thanks. I’ll borrow money from someone,” Candice declined.
This infuriated Greyson immediately.
He steadied himself and tightened his grip on her wrist. “You’ll borrow money? From Milton Lopez?”
Candice winced at the pain in her wrist. Why did he assume she would borrow money from Milton when she was actually considering borrowing it from Bettina?
Why would she stoop so low? She wasn’t seeking financial support from either Greyson or Milton.
That, essentially, ended the conversation for her.
But what was she supposed to explain to him? Not that he needed to know.
“Who I borrow money from is none of your concern!” She glared at him, venom in her eyes. “Let me go! I need to get out!”
Greyson wouldn’t let Candice go. His expression was dark and sinister.

He was never one to show his feelings and was usually patient. But now, he looked terrible because he couldn’t control his rage.
“Stop imagining things, Candice! Why would you think you deserve Milton? The Lopez family is one of the most twisted I’ve ever heard of. Can you handle that? You can’t be so foolish! He’s just fooling around with you.”
Candice’s lips twitched with anger. To be honest, she never thought about being with Milton.
Still, Greyson’s remark that she didn’t deserve Milton cut deep.
Milton was the only one who could say that. It wasn’t something Greyson should be commenting on.
Greyson assumed Candice was affected by his words since she didn’t contradict him.
Without hesitation, he added, “The Candice I know… She’s at least dignified and honest. But now you’ve turned into a material girl. Why?”
