Chapter 912
Chapter 916:
“I can’t accept it. I don’t want a penny from you.”
Milton stared at her coldly, anger evident in his eyes.
He continued to fix his gaze on her until her legs grew weak and she felt compelled to avert her eyes uncomfortably.
An uneasy silence hung in the air, and the tension was palpable.
Eventually, Milton sighed and made a concession. “How about we get engaged first? What do you think? As for the marriage certificate, we can discuss it later. I won’t force you. But getting engaged is my bottom line and my final compromise.”
In truth, Milton had carefully considered Candice’s proposal over the weekend. While he didn’t care about the opinions of others, Candice did. And he couldn’t always be there to protect her. If she wanted to become stronger, he would support her in achieving that.
Candice was stunned by his response, her lips trembling. She had never anticipated that this arrogant man would yield so easily. She had expected her words to anger him and potentially ignite a cold war between them.
Engagement was a wise choice.
It spared her from enduring the judgmental eyes of others, and it also allowed her time to build her own dowry. Looking at his handsome face, she nodded unconsciously, unable to resist the allure of his offer.
“Okay,” Candice agreed. “But crowds aren’t my thing.”
“Let’s keep it as basic as we can. What do you think about this Saturday? I reckon five days is plenty of time for you to get ready,” Milton declared, slipping into his coat and rising from the bed. He made it sound so effortless.
“Five days? This Saturday?” Candice’s stunning eyes bulged in surprise. What was she supposed to do within that short span? Even though it was just an engagement with a limited audience, the process couldn’t be skimmed over. And again, what could she accomplish in five days? How could this be feasible? Was it sufficient?
Milton turned around, arching his eyebrows at her. “What? You believe five days is too drawn out? Well, we can’t arrange it today. Here’s an idea, how about this Wednesday evening?”

Candice was left speechless.
Wednesday? Was he serious? This was ridiculous! What made him conclude that she found it too extended? Why the rush? He was being totally irrational!
A slight twitch appeared at the corner of Candice’s lips. As she was about to retort, she glanced at the clock and bolted, shouting, “I have to go. I’m really going to be late!”
There was no time for pointless chitchat with Milton now.
Candice dashed into the bathroom and got herself ready in a flash. When she was done freshening up and heading for the door, Milton handed her a bag of food and said, “Take care. Watch your footing. Eat this on your way. You’ll be contacted by a designer named Catherine later. She’ll handle the details of the engagement. All you need to do is work with her.”
Candice was momentarily startled but didn’t pause. She grabbed the food and headed straight for the Bentley parked outside.
