Chapter 644
Chapter 644:
Candice furrowed her brows. “I’m not joking around. Answer my questions.”
Milton flashed a seductive smile and said, “I’ve always been the sole executor of others. You’re overthinking it. It’s late. It’s time to go to bed.”
With that, he carried her upstairs.
Candice landed gently on the soft bed.
Just as she was about to get up, Milton laid his hand on her shoulder, slipping into the bed simultaneously. “Sleep. Rest your mind.”
“But, I didn’t… I…” Candice struggled to put her uncertainties into words, feeling a sense of limitation in expressing herself. These were mere speculations, far from her final conclusions. She knew she needed to gather more concrete proof before discussing it with him.
With this in mind, she retracted the words that had nearly slipped from her tongue. Still, confusion lingered.
Resting on his side, Milton propped his head with one arm and leisurely gazed at Candice. As she was lost in thought, her bright eyes had taken on a dreamy quality, her pink lips slightly upturned, adding to her already adorable demeanor. He felt an irresistible urge to kiss her and leaned in to do so. Caught off guard by his intent, Candice instinctively shielded her lips with the back of her hand. This was a reflexive act of defense.
As Milton observed her covering her lips, his gaze grew intense, his expression turning cold and distant. She didn’t want his kiss. He studied her intently, but this time, he managed to keep his temper in check. Instead, he bowed his head and planted a tender kiss on her palm.
Candice, her beautiful eyes wide in surprise, could only stare at him. His lips, warm and soft, ignited a tingling sensation in her palm. The feeling of affection penetrated her heart. She shivered involuntarily, taken aback by this unexpected display of affection.
If not for her menstrual cycle, she doubted her ability to fend off his charm. If he wanted to have sex, she would surrender soon. Her mind was a mess. If Erica hadn’t pushed her down those stairs, perhaps their relationship wouldn’t be so strained. Could she dare to hope?
What the hell! What was she even contemplating? She hadn’t gathered any concrete evidence yet.
In a defensive move, she curled into herself, avoiding his gaze. In a soft voice, she said, “I’m off to sleep. You should go to your room.”
With that, she closed her eyes.
However, the images of the car crash and Corless’ attempt to violate her, mingled with the chaotic snippets from tonight’s surveillance footage, wreaked havoc in her mind. A chill ran through her. She’d been repeatedly traumatized, her PTSD symptoms ever persistent. Her PTSD, after all, was far from being fully treated.
An urge to medicate surged within her. But he had seized her medication, leaving her without access.
Milton saw her huddled form and noticed her shivers. He shook his head helplessly and pulled her into his embrace, whispering, “I only want to sleep beside you. What is causing you distress? I won’t do anything.” His hand gently caressed her back.
As he switched off the ambient light, darkness enveloped the room.
