Chapter 285
Chapter 285:
Confused, Candice touched her neck. What necklace?
When she realized there really was a necklace around her neck, Candice couldn’t believe it. How had it gotten there?
She hadn’t even known she was wearing it the whole time.
“Excuse me,” she muttered.
Then she rushed to the ladies’ room. She looked at herself in the mirror and examined the necklace around her neck. She had washed up and changed hastily that morning, so she hadn’t noticed it.
The necklace was made of platinum and rose gold, with a clasp shaped like a small, delicate lock. It was studded with fine diamonds and emeralds. It looked simple and dainty at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it radiated opulence and superiority.
Candice wanted to take it off but didn’t know how.
At that moment, Bettina entered with an envious look. She asked, “Milton gave that to you as a birthday present, didn’t he? RICH, the jewelry brand that made that necklace, is owned by the Royal Garden Corporation. Pieces that win design competitions aren’t usually sold to the public. The only person who could have gotten their hands on that is Milton.”
“Betty, help me take it off. I can’t undo the clasp,” Candice replied, her focus entirely on removing the necklace. She intended to return it to Milton.
Damn it! Candice was sure Milton had put the necklace on her while she was asleep. Otherwise, she would have noticed it.
She had a bad feeling and thought of the bracelet on her wrist that she hadn’t taken off yet.
“Come on, let me try,” Bettina said, walking over to help. Unfortunately, she failed as well.
Confused, Bettina remarked, “What is wrong with this thing? Why won’t it come off?”

Hearing this, Candice pulled a long face and cursed Milton in her mind once again.
Suddenly, Bettina’s eyes lit up. “Oh, silly girl! Of course! It’s the Shackle of Love! You need a key to unlock it. See? The clasp is shaped like a lock. It’s a prizewinning piece of jewelry, so there must be some unique gimmick. Maybe there’s a key, and whoever put this necklace on you must have it. That’s the only way you can ever take this gorgeous necklace off.”
Bettina poked Candice on the side, winked, and said, “How could you accept a birthday gift from Milton? You don’t even let me get you a birthday gift. That hurts my feelings deeply, you know? Tell me the truth—did you guys sleep together last night?”
Staring at her best friend with wide, horrified eyes, Candice snapped, “Oh, stop it, Betty! I’ll turn against you if you don’t stop talking nonsense.”
How could this be happening? Candice couldn’t believe Milton had put such a necklace on her without her knowing. Shackle of Love? More like a dog collar!
Bettina stuck out her tongue, realizing she should stop joking. She knew she had gone too far and needed to hold back.
