Chapter 329
Chapter 329:
As she got into the car, her phone vibrated.
She saw it was Bettina calling.
With a quick swipe, Candice answered.
Bettina asked anxiously, “Candy, where are you? You missed the partner meeting this morning. Why didn’t you tell me you’d be absent?”
At that moment, Candice realized her phone had been on silent. No wonder she hadn’t noticed the calls coming in.
“I’m sorry. I had some things to deal with. I’ll be there in about thirty minutes,” she replied.
Bettina let out a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness you’re okay. I was worried sick when I couldn’t reach you.”
Chuckling, Candice said, “Ploville is just a small place. It’s not like I could go far.”
“Oh, and by the way, don’t forget about the event tonight,” Bettina reminded her.
“Event? What event?” Candice was stunned for a moment and couldn’t recall any.
“Look at you. You really can’t remember, can you? It’s the birthday party of the Yamonia ambassador’s wife. The invitation was sent to you weeks ago. Thank God I called you. This is a big deal, Candy. You need to go home at five to change into a formal dress and arrive early by six,” Bettina said.
Candice frowned. She despised attending events like this.
“I remember you were invited too.”
“Yes, we’ll go together. But I have some things to take care of this afternoon before heading there,” Bettina responded.
“Okay, I’ll be there,” Candice replied, making a mental note of the commitment.
“Candy, I just asked the consulate for the guest list. Madilyn and Rachel will be attending as well. They weren’t officially on the list before. Maybe Greyson’s recent fame got them invitations,” Bettina said.
Candice’s grip on her phone tightened at the mention of their names. Wherever those two went, trouble seemed to follow.

Bettina’s voice was filled with concern. “Do you think they’re coming just because of you? Maybe they’re plotting to embarrass you. Madilyn is shameless and would stoop to any level. Should I speak to the ambassador’s wife and try to excuse you from attending? But skipping wouldn’t be appropriate. We don’t want to seem arrogant or rude. It would reflect badly on our law firm.”
Candice’s lips curled into a smirk. “Why wouldn’t I go? Don’t worry, I can handle them. They’ll be the ones embarrassed. I’m not worried. They won’t know what hit them,” she replied confidently.
“I’m glad to hear that. I’ll watch out for them tonight,” Bettina said clearly. “I’m ending the call now. See you later at the law firm.”
“Alright.”
After Candice ended the call, she received a WhatsApp notification.
She looked at her phone. It was a message from Milton.
” I brought breakfast for you this morning, but you weren’t at home,” Milton said.
