Glancing at Greyson, the Countess of Winchester waved her hand generously and remarked, “Mr. Harman, you are a well-known figure in Ploville. Since you are a successful entrepreneur, Yamonia values your expertise in biological technology and looks forward to close cooperation with you.” She then looked over at Madilyn and Rachel, who had been taken away by the police.
“But family affairs are important too. I hope you can handle them properly,” she added.
Greyson bowed again and expressed his gratitude. “Thank you for your tolerance, your ladyship. I will do my best. Thank you.”
With that, he gave one final nod and confidently strode out of the banquet hall.
After the police left, the ambassador’s wife gracefully walked to the center of the banquet hall and addressed the remaining guests.
“Ladies and gentlemen, some minor incidents happened earlier this evening, but I am happy to report they have been successfully resolved. Let’s put any unpleasantness behind us and enjoy the tango ball. Please, have fun!”
As soon as she finished speaking, the lights dimmed and the hall transformed into a colorful, rotating dance floor. The tango music started playing, and the guests couldn’t contain their excitement. Men and women paired up and danced with abandon.
Candice hadn’t left yet.
She wasn’t sure why she stayed. Madilyn and Rachel had been exposed, Greyson had left, and Bettina was nowhere to be found. The task of meeting the ambassador’s wife had been fulfilled.
But Candice couldn’t bring herself to leave. She didn’t know where else to go when she didn’t want to go home.
Candice found herself completely distracted and unable to think straight. She aimlessly wandered around the second floor, unsure of what to do next. Normally, she would have accompanied the police to the station to testify against Madilyn and Rachel, but something was holding her back.

Her thoughts were consumed by Milton. She took out her phone, which was powered off. She hadn’t brought a charger with her. Even if she charged it, what could she possibly say to him?
She’d heard him clearly. He said he wanted her to abort the child. He didn’t want her child. She’d simply been overthinking things. The realization gave her a splitting headache, and she rubbed her temples in frustration.
Her mind was in disarray.
As she walked through the banquet hall, she barely registered the wild dancing and festive atmosphere. It was as if the earlier chaos had never happened. Everyone had already forgotten about it.
Candice slipped out of the banquet hall unnoticed, walking along the wall where the light didn’t reach.
As soon as she stepped outside, the rain began to pour once more.
The cold air helped clear her head a little, but she couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. Instinctively, she placed a hand on her belly. She had been alone for so long, and now she found solace in the company of her child.
