Chapter 902
Chapter 905:
She had believed she had managed to escape from it, only to realize that Milton had intentionally awakened her, feigning kindness to provide her with food. It became evident that his actions were solely driven by his sexual desire.
Milton filled his glass once more with wine.
A wave of tranquility washed over him when he discovered his mother wasn’t the one who had shoved Candice down those formidable stairs. It came as a surprise to him when Candice had uncovered this truth independently.
The unrelated surveillance footage provided her an opening, a glitch in the time frame, revealing her remarkable detective skills! Yet, despite being aware of the truth, Candice had chosen to keep it from him. Milton had been tormented by this mystery for an uncomfortably long period. Therefore, some form of retribution felt necessary. He acknowledged the fact that Candice had sacrificed more than her fair share for him, which was unusual for her character.
She had let the scandal of her wedding night go unpursued because of him.
Milton’s eyes landed on Candice, who was savoring her meal, adorable and tempting.
His smile shone brighter.
To be honest, Milton didn’t hold much resentment towards Bart for what occurred on her wedding night. After all, if it weren’t for Bart, Candice wouldn’t be with him. By accident, he didn’t suffer any loss. Milton was unfazed by the prospect of a tarnished reputation.
Yet, he couldn’t allow Bart to walk free after the intentional harm he inflicted upon Candice.
Milton had chosen to remain quiet at the meeting out of respect for the elders’ presence. Besides, he trusted Erica’s competency to handle the matter.
Candice, having finished her dessert, noticed Milton’s continuous drinking, his plate untouched. She marveled at his resilience. Here was a man who skipped dinner, yet seemed to have boundless energy for their intimate moments.
Candice contemplated before posing a question.

“Is your father still alive?”
“Yes,” Milton answered briefly.
Candice didn’t pursue the topic further, sensing Milton’s reluctance to discuss it. It appeared that he didn’t want to talk about his father.
Milton drained his glass once more.
After a moment’s hesitation, he explained, “My father shared a close bond with Annot and greatly respected her. That’s why I’ve been so tolerant with both Healy and Bart. If not for my grandpa’s continued existence, Bart would not be off the hook after what he has done to you. I’m not afraid to cross paths with Annot and Bart. But, the timing just isn’t right for retribution.”
With that, Milton moved to Candice’s side, gently placing his hand on hers.
He gazed at Candice, whispering, “I’m sorry that you’ve suffered so much because of them. When the moment is right, you’ll receive your justice.”
Candice set her fork down. She was fully aware, in fact. The underlying reason for Milton’s restraint that night was his consideration for Arlo. As long as Arlo was absent, Milton couldn’t sever ties with Bart and Annot.
