Chapter 21:
Unexpectedly, a boy was also locked inside the cold storage with her.
She couldn’t see him clearly in the darkness, but she sensed he was several years older than she was. He had come to the cold storage to look for materials needed for the next day’s chemistry class.
She remembered how he found some bubble wrap and wrapped it around her to keep her from freezing to death.
He gently said, “Don’t be afraid.”
How could she not be afraid? She trembled with fear. For the first time, she cried in front of a stranger. She wept as she hadn’t in fourteen years.
“How about I sing a song for you?”
He proceeded to sing The First Time for her. His voice was so beautiful.
She remembered his voice was clear and melodious, though it shook slightly because he was cold too. Strangely, that trembling made his singing even more lovely. His beautiful song echoed through the dark room, both exciting and calming her at the same time.
“You know I won’t forget the time we shared together holding hands. Sometimes we have to start over. We were so happy back then. Do you remember the first time we fell in love?”
Candice knew then that she had fallen in love with the boy beside her.
After listening to his song, she was no longer afraid, and her heart was filled with warmth.
She didn’t know what came over her.
It was dark all around as he eased into the final chorus of the song…
And then she suddenly kissed him on the lips.
That year, she was only fourteen years old, and it was her first kiss.
She had been so bold then. Recalling that memory made her feel like a stranger to herself.
The boy didn’t say anything. In the quiet darkness, it was hard to read his face or guess what he was thinking. Time passed, feeling like an eternity. Somehow, they fell asleep beside each other in that cold storage.

She didn’t know how they were rescued. Maybe it was early morning when someone arrived for work and found them. Or maybe it was at the crack of dawn.
Either way, after they were found, she spent the entire next week lying in a hospital bed.
After she was discharged, she tried to inquire about the boy she had been with that night, but she couldn’t get any information about him.
Fortunately, when she kissed him in the dark, she was so nervous that she tore the nameplate off his shirt.
Senior high students had to live in school dorms, and the number of his dorm room, 307, was on the plate.
Finally, she found out that two boys shared each dorm room.
One of the boys in Room 307 was said to be in America at the time.
The other boy staying there was Greyson. Therefore, when they married, Candice specifically chose Room 8307 to spend their wedding night.
Since girlhood, she had dreamed that on her wedding night, she would give her virginity to the love of her life in that special, meaningful room.
Who would have thought that her dream would be completely destroyed by that damn strange man?
Even if she could prove her innocence, there was no way to get her purity back. She had been sullied and divorced.
Was there any point in continuing to try?
Loud, upbeat music stirred the dance floor into a frenzy. The crowd danced like there was no tomorrow.
Suddenly, Candice snapped back to her senses. The revelry around her drowned out the memories of her past.
She felt something wet sliding down her face.
She was in tears and didn’t even realize it.
Greyson walked through the crowd on the dance floor and approached her.
He reached out and grabbed her wrist.
“Let’s go. You shouldn’t be hanging out in places like this.”
Candice frowned.
Greyson noticed the coat she was wearing—a professional motorcycle suit made by a top brand named ASP.
His eyes instantly turned cold. “Where did you get that?”
In response, Candice tightened the coat around her to cover the torn shirt underneath.
She shook off Greyson’s hand.
Not wanting him to see her in tears, she grabbed a bottle of champagne from the bar counter and opened it, spraying it everywhere.
She wet her hair and face with it.
Seeing this, Bettina opened two more bottles and sprayed them over the excited crowd.
Candice shouted, “I’m paying for everything tonight, everybody! Go enjoy yourselves!”
Everyone squealed and yelled with delight.
No one knew that beneath that film of sweet champagne, Candice’s face was covered in bitter tears.
Since the incident on her wedding night, she had persisted as if nothing had happened. Finally, she broke down, letting out all the tears she’d been holding back, and decided to drown her sorrows in booze and debauchery.
Standing in front of her, Greyson pulled a long face. He watched as Candice partied wildly.
The pub was too noisy for her to hear him, so she had to scream,
“Greyson, you and I… we are over!”
The ten years of attachment and their short marriage were all over.
There was no denying that, in the end, they came from two immensely different worlds.
